Jenn - Jennifer Rhodes met Melanie back when True Blood was popular and they have been friends ever since. She loves TV (especially things that make you smile), Doctor Who, Finding new shows, and regularly provides awesome fandom items for Muser Giveaways. Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team!Sometimes when you have a show drought, you just go through streaming apps trying to find something new to watch and that’s what happened with me and how I found “The Great” on Hulu. It's a sort of history telling of Catherine the Great, and I do mean sort of because honestly I feel like none of it was historically accurate except maybe the names. But that’s alright it was still a good story, especially season two. I stopped watching in the middle of season three because they make you like Philip then boom gone, and yes he dies but if you know the actual history then that had to happen for Catherine to be leader of Russia. So I wouldn’t really call that a spoiler! If you’re looking for something different or maybe even something historical then i would definitely recommend giving “The Great” a try. Just a warning, you’ll end up hating every character at some point and I do mean all, which I can honestly say has never happened for me with any other show. Don’t worry though, hating the characters doesn’t take away from you enjoying the show, at least not in my opinion. Melanie - I tried this when it came out and I 100% blame Sherry Ficklin's Stolen Empire book series for not allowing me to enjoy it! The Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Russia And Now For The Giveaway Melanie's Muses will be giving away a "The Great Inspired" prize pack including a chocker from Jenn, and a Tiara, Protect The Prince Paperback, Resin Atheme, High Empress tarot card and Bookmark, A slap bracelet, a snowflake ring and a cross ring all from Melanie's Muses Prize Hoard. Any questions please contact Melanie on the Facebook page Melanie - should need no introduction lol For some reason, unbeknownst even to myself, The Mortal Instrument book series never crossed my path until after I had seen the movie, even though when you read the synopsis it all looks like something I would enjoy. And enjoy I did, well the movie anyway. I actually hated the books and couldn't even get through the first one (yes yes I know - unpopular opinion - when has that ever stopped me). The movie, that fans had been waiting on for years, got a LOT of hate. They hated the casting, they hated, well pretty much everything to do with it really, and it was by all definitions a box office flop. I didn't watch the movie until a few years after its DVD release but I LOVED IT, (Well apart from my vamp Mitchel in it as a wolf - THAT didn't work for me), but it seems I was definitely in the minority. I think it was one of those things where fans had already decided it wasn't what they wanted, and non fans (for the most part) found it was touching on too many elements to make it enjoyable. That being said, it is FULL of stars you will recognize and I definitely suggest checking it out - it's often streaming. I did watch the TV Series (mainly because Jenn kept nagging me too), and that's a whole other take again. Throwing the world into a mix with futuristic style tech, and I wasn't sure about it at all. For the most part I prefer the movie casting but I will say Magus in the tv show is fabulous. I think it's one of those shows you have to watch a bit like True Blood and pretend there isn't anything already known, and then it's quite enjoyable (except the end - I agree with Jenn that what they considered to be an acceptable ending most definitely was not - despite the fact that the network gave them the episodes pretty much so that they COULD finish it). If you like the supernatural and you haven't seen it my rec is check out the trailers below and you'll see which one might appeal more to you - or maybe you'll check out the books. The nice thing is the winner of the giveaway gets a chance for 2/3 of the starting options lol. Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team! This is one movie where I actually enjoyed the show a little bit better, and no I didn’t read the books. "Shadowhunters" had quite a following as it went from books, then to movie form with "The Mortal Instruments : City of Bones", and then to a show on Freeform. Fans even tried to bring it back when it was canceled. Unfortunately their campaign did not work. I wasn’t a fan of the ending and to me it wasn’t closed even though the writers said it was. I’m sure many have heard of this story either through reading the books or watching the movie or show. Clary learns on her birthday that maybe the world is more complicated than she thought. Demons basically exist and she’s part of an elite team that hunts them called the shadowhunters. Well at least they hunt the bad ones. I bet Clary misses when her only worry was getting into art school not fighting demons. This story is definitely not one to be missed. Personally my advice is to watch the show but hey the movie is good as well, it just sucks that a second one was never made. The Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Rune

With The Tudors giveaway still being live I thought you might like to read my review from when the book was released in 2018 and it was actually my surprise book find of the year! (If you haven't entered the giveaway you can do so HERE)
Now For The Review Standalone or series? Standalone How did I get this book? Random send by the publisher Why did I choose to read this book: I love the Tudor history and this looked interesting. Genre Historical Fiction (with some biographical aspects) And Now To The Review! First Impressions: This is slightly different from many that I have read with each "Queen" having her own voice given via being written by a separate author, and then one consistent author voice throughout, for the King. General Review I absolutely adore the Tudor history, both the actual history and various retellings that have occurred over the years (yes including the JRM TV show), and so I was very excited to see another version hitting the shelves. Each queen managed to capture the voices much as I have imagined them over the years but I loved the slightly unique idea of hearing things from only their point of view. We all know that when it comes to history the victors generally write the history, the losers are either forgotten, or their tales are considered bitter, and the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Obviously the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but for me, this FELT real as I was reading it. Each of the queens broke my heart in their own way, and the king, well the King's portrayal was exactly as I have always imagined he would be. Final Thoughts A must-read for lovers of this time period. The best piece of historical fiction I have read in years! (This remains true even 5 years later!!) Rating: 5 stars (even though I noted that the time that simply isn't enough!) As always let me know what you think in the comments! Pineapple Code word for this article is Henry Melanie - should need no introduction lolDivorced, Beheaded, Died ..... Divorced, Beheaded, Survived. The six words we learned at school to help us remember the fate of the wives of Henry VIII because you could guarantee that it would be coming up on your history exam. Those 6 words have become so famous that they have been used to form the basis of a whole Broadway Musical - Six - which tells the story behind the wives- the story many don't know. This period of history has ALWAYS been fascinating to me and I have read multiple accounts of what people say happened. Obviously, history is subjective (I mean as everyone knows - it was always recorded by the winners), but there are always some versions that seem to have more truth too them. The tv series "The Tudors", is in my opinion, one of the best versions out there. Although they take major liberties with the casting of Jonathon Rhys Meyers as King Henry, I can understand why. It is much easier to convince an audience that a good looking guy like him, full of charisma, could convince women to marry him, versus the truth was that the women really didn't have much of a choice and were basically political pawns. That, and of course, power was, and always will be, a very strong motivator. For England his reign changed everything. I mean he literally created a new religion that stands today the "Church Of England" which really doesn't even have a parallel anywhere else in the world. We have the Catholics, and then CofE (which is probably closest to the protestant faith using the principles added in by Elizabeth - daughter of Anne Boleyn)

Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team!So I recently just finished “The Tudors” which I had started with Mels when I went to visit her in March. I love history and have heard of King Henry the eighth of course and his wives but really never thought much about him. I don’t even remember if I learned about him in school. We probably did but that was so long ago, but anyways if you enjoy Tudor history then you should definitely check this show out. Although JRM definitely looks nothing like the actual king Henry because if he did I’d get why he’d have so many women wanting to be with him. But since he was a big red headed ginger, I do not. Mels says it’s because of the power, (as “History of the World Part 1” says “Its good to be the king”) I still don’t get it. I guess it’s because I’m American and we don’t do kings or queens here, but anyways go check out the Tudors if you haven’t. It’s not a bad retelling and all episodes are now on Amazon Prime. Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team!Aliens seem to be a popular theme with me. But what can I say except there's a lot of good movies that deal with them but none compare to this movie, at least in my opinion, and that movie is "E.T.". I mean you could say it’s almost one of the original alien movies and he’s even kind of cute for alien. So let me leave a trail of Reese's Pieces for you to follow as I tell you about this movie that was originally rejected by studios before finally getting made. I bet those studios regret that decision. It starts off in a normal alien movie type way. Kinda. Instead of crashing, he lands his ship on Earth with others of his kind but is accidently left behind when they fly off to escape government officials. Not knowing what to do, he basically wanders until he meets the two kids that end up helping him get home, or should I say phone home. Though in movies you know it’s never quite that easy and this one is definitely no exception. Does E.T. end up finally getting home? Well as this is a older classic I could give you the answer, but I won’t because like Mels some may never have seen it and I wouldn’t want to ruin it. So if you enjoy alien type movies and you have yet to see "E.T." then I suggest you definitely remedy that and soon Musers. Melanie - And Mels has NO INTENTION OF EVER WATCHING IT EVER lol The Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Alien And Now For The GiveawayMelanie's Muses will be giving away an "ET" prize pack including a Gertie Funko and the ET DVD from Jenn, and a fidget popper bracelet, Pixar mystery bag, Stitch plastic shit glass, and some Stranger Things stickers all from Melanie's Muses Prize Hoard. Any questions please contact Melanie on the Facebook page Melanie - should need no introduction lolUnless you are BRAND NEW to the site,(and well if you are then welcome,) then you will probably be aware of my fascination with vampires. I mean before I rebranded I was literally "The Vampire Loving Dork!" (and the name still fits). Of course you can't have vampires without Dracula, and although we have covered it before, Emily got an extra set of the NBC TV Series DVDs specifically for me to giveaway as we both love the show. We are, in fact, in the minority when it comes to loving NBC's failed version. The story is unique, and whilst I don't know what the thinking was behind having Johnathon Rhys Meyers adopt an America accent - the costumes, the scenery, and the attention to details is exquisite. I watch those special features on the DVD often.
Although there is only one season, which does end in a kind of cliffhanger - the story was obviously planned to continue, it isn't the kind of cliffhanger that kills you like other shows, For me I know what I think would have happened and I guess at least in THAT way there was no chance of them ruining it. Check out the trailer for the series below (Sadly at the time of posting I couldn't find anywhere it was streaming - It was on NBC so maybe Peacock will eventually get it). and one of the behind the scenes clips (there are a lot more on the DVD).
