But this is one baddie that needs another mention. Cruella De Vil has been mentioned many times actually but now I just want to talk about the movie that introduced her to begin with and that’s the classic Disney story "101 Dalmatians". It has several incarnations. A few live action remakes, and some sequels, but nothing will ever beat the Disney animated version in my book. (Even though Glenn Close played a great older Cruella & Emma Stone shined as the younger version.) We probably all know this story, or should at least. Dalmatians meet and have puppies, 15 puppies to be precise. That’s a lot of puppies to start with and Anita and Roger are taking care of them but then Cruella, Anita’s boss, tries to buy them and of course it’s not for anything good. She wants their fur for their coats. Anita and Roger say no, but that doesn’t stop Cruella. She gets her henchmen to kidnap them, and a hunt to find and save the puppies begins (and of course they have to save ALL the puppies, which is where the movie name comes from). Though this being a Disney movie I’m sure everyone knows that it has a happy ending but knowing that it’s still a classic and definitely on my rewatch list. The recently made "Cruella" is basically the villains backstory. And I think we all know I love a good backstory. But this one had me feeling bad for her and she’s definitely someone I don’t want to feel bad for. I can definitely say Cruella will never have a redeemable quality to me. Now if you’ve never seen this older movie you might be thinking “What?” but trust me it’s actually really good, cute and family friendly. Not to mention it’s practically a classic! Well, a 1980’s classic if you must get technical. There’s actually three movies in the series but the one I want to really shine a light on is the original. Yes it’s exactly as the title sounds and what you’re probably thinking. A inventor makes a shrink ray but then everything starts to go wrong when because of that not only do his kids end up shrinking, but the neighbors kids do as well. They also end up getting lost in the backyard, so most of the movie is the parents trying to find them without stepping in the yard or on the grass. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I still enjoy it today even though I haven’t seen it in awhile. Melanie - Oh I remember going to see this in the cinema when I was younger and I thought it was brilliant. I was obsessed with them riding the ant for the longest time. It sparked a bunch of spin offs but none of them lived up to this one. Of course it also has the advantage of being an 80's movie (just), which automatically gives it a boost! Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team!Aliens. I seem to have a thing for them but this is a little different than alien movies I’ve written about before. There may be a million movies about them and in all shapes and sizes but knowing me, you know this one has to be different in some way. It’s also by Stephanie Meyers, the same author who wrote “Twilight” and it is called “The Host” which was a book first then turned into a movie, but no I’ve never actually read the book. The movie though was not badly done at all. This movie follows a band of people trying to just stay themselves and by that I mean they want no part in this alien takeover. This takeover is oddly different from ones you’ve seen because they don’t want to kill us. No, that would be too typical for me. They need us and I’m not going to say how because spoilers and this would definitely be a big one especially if you haven’t seen the movie or read the book, but I will give you one clue, and that’s the title means more than just it being a title. Melanie - Not to be confused with the Korean Horror Movie - also called The Host lol The Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Host And Now For The GiveawayMelanie's Muses will be giving away The Host DVD (the movie) and paperback copy of the book both from Jenn. She loves TV (especially things that make you smile), Doctor Who, Finding new shows, and regularly provides awesome fandom items for Muser Giveaways. Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team!"Grease" one of my absolutely favorite musicals. Younger me always wanted to play Rizzo, I know usually it was all about Sandy. But you know me. I have to be different. I loved Rizzo's edginess and spunk. "Grease" even had a sequel that wasn’t horrible but nothing will ever compare to the original, at least to me. This story about good girl Sandy, and bad boy Danny is just one that’s not to be missed even if you don’t care for musicals. This movie has it all. Romance, comedy, wittiness, and even drama with music thrown in. Do Sandy and Danny get together, well maybe. I know this movie is older but I don’t want to ruin it for those who may have not actually seen it. The ending is even under speculation and full of fan theories so nothing is certain anyway. Like I said even if musicals are not your thing you should still definitely check it out because I for one think this is one that everyone can enjoy and from any generation. Melanie - Oh I love Grease. I even love the second one - I don't care - I just do. I still sing Cool Rider at the top of my lungs if I hear it. Anyway, so the first movie. It's funny that Jenn wanted to be Rizzo because I never wanted to be Sandy either, I always wanted to be Marty. I don't know why, I just thought she would be fun. I've seen the movie, been to several versions of the live Musical, (the best one being in London even IF Shane Ritchie did NOT feature in the cast for that performance). I can't believe it's 40 years old but for the most part the basic story pretty much holds up and the music is just fabulous. Tell me you don't hear Greased Lightening and do the arm motions? If you don't I can ONLY Assume you haven't seen it.... which you should fix right now! Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Hydromatic And now for the Giveaway |
