Melanie - Founder of Melanie's Muses - You should know who I am lol If not click - All about Melanie!Bitten. OK Let me get this out the way, because JUST like when it aired and Greg made lots of comments, YES this is a series about wolves and yes I watched, and for the most part enjoyed it. Now let's back track a little and throw in some context. The TV show is based off a book series I read. I originally picked up book 3 in this series - Dime Store Magic - read it and enjoyed it - and then found out there were two books before it and it all starts with a damn wolf. I will say that I watched the show because book Clay is dark, unapologetic sociopath who happens to be a wolf. TV show Clay ... well not so much.. but the show is still definitely worth watching! Unlike the books, all 3 series of the TV show stick with Elena's story which made sense, although if the books had gone that way I probably would never have picked up the series, but sometimes things just work out. Kelley Armstrong has written a lot of books that I have read and enjoyed and there is even one in the giveaway! Jenn - Jennifer Rhodes met Melanie back when True Blood was popular and they have been friends ever since. She loves TV (especially things that make you smile), Doctor Who, Finding new shows, and regularly provides awesome fandom items for Muser Giveaways. Jennifer is now a proud member of the VIPers - the Melanie's Muses Spotlight Feature Team! This werewolf series is an old one and it’s even Mels approved and she doesn’t like wolves so you know it’s a must watch and that show is Bitten. The series basically follows Elena as she has to head home to her pack after being called home by there alpha when a string of weird murders hits there town, and since she’s there best tracker they definitely need her to come home, though she wants nothing to do with the pack after everything that went down. She’s also the only female in any pack, why is that? I’m not sure, well I am but no spoilers! You just need too watch if you’ve never checked out this amazing series, like I said it’s even Mels approved and there’s wolves! (Which is so rare I had to mention it twice). The Pineapple Code Word For This Article Is Clay And Now For The Giveaway Melanie's Muses will be giving away the complete Bitten Season 1 DVD set from Jenn and a hardback copy of book 1 in Kelley Armstrong's Cainsville series from the Melanie's Muses Prize hoard. Måneskin - Off My FaceMe and Mel love love love a bit of Måneskin, and their new album is brilliant! I already had my fave song from the album, Honey are you Comimg? on previously so this is another boppy track. If you haven't listened to Måneskin before then you really need to!!
Passenger ft Ed Sheeran - Let Her GoI remember going to see a relatively unknown ginger haired singer, and we were treated to a singer called Passenger who opened for Ed. I loved Passenger's set, so I went and listened to anything I could find from him. This anniversary edition with Passenger and Ed together is sublime My fave song from Passenger is Wrong Direction so go and have a listen to that too!
Noah Kahan ft Hozier- Northern AttitudeI have never heard of Noah Kahan before, but having heard his vocals I know I'll be checking out more of his stuff. The vocals paired with Hoziers is just perfect!
David Guetta & Kim Petras - When We Were Young (The Logical Song)Scooter The logical Song is one of my favorite get your ass in the dancefloor tracks and usually I hate remakes but this isn't that bad and you can tell they wanted to pay homage to the original and I am hear for it!
Dermot Kennedy - Two HeartsAh, Dermo...you can never do a bad song and I'm loving all the new releases he's been doing lately.
VUKOVI - MERCY KILLVukovi is Scottish band I've been a fan of for a while now, and the lead singer has a very unique sounding tone, probably from the Scottish accent.
Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - BramblesThe videos a little weird, and it's essentially Frank having a boogie in the woods...its like some stoner dream he's having and as weird as it is, I kinda love it.
R U Init ft Noisy - Original SoundThe moment that I heard this song, I immediately thought of the Prodigy's No Good. It has the qualities of a great nineties floor-filler. I like Noisy, and the uniqueness of the main singers voice just adds to the track.
Bryn Christopher & Gabrielle Aplin - Somebody That I Used To KnowI love a good cover version, especially when it takes the original song and flips it on its head. This version is great and dancy, and gets ya moving!
boygenius, Ye Vagabonds - The Parting GlassThis is one of my favorite songs of all time, so much so that I even have Jack from Sanguine Crown singing it in my Christmas anthology, A Lot Like Christmas. This version features on a tribute to the late Sinéad O'Connor and its amazing...
Throwback Track
As I mentioned it above, I felt like this was a great track to have as my throwback for this week.

Melanie - Founder of Melanie's Muses - You should know who I am lol If not click - All about Melanie!
Oh Romeo and Juliet, the greatest love story ever told, or the subject of intense ridicule and bitching about wayward teenagers. Whichever side of the line you happen to stand on, one thing is for sure, I am willing to bet you at least know the basic story.
Ignoring the fact that they are teenagers (because people need to remember the time when this was written), this is, in my opinion, one of the best written tragic love stories out there. I have watched many of the movie versions, read many book interpretations (including one with vampires), I own the pops, the soundtrack to the 1996 movie, and many, many other references.
It seems my favorites though are those that interpret the original material a little differently. In movies, this translates as Baz Luhrman's 1996 movie version with the original Shakespearean dialogue set in a modern day Verona and packed with fabulous musical numbers making the soundtrack a must listen (in my opinion). Packed full of stars too numerous to go into I will just say that Harold Perrineau's of Mercutio was so good I felt the need to include a bonus clip of his performance at the party. (And the Spotify Playlist)
Moving to books, and we have the Defy the Stars series by Susan Harris. When I first read book one I described it as the "Magical Reimagining I Didn't Know I Needed". And that remains true to this day. Her tagline - if you think you know how this story ends ... you're wrong, couldn't be more apt with the main series being a trilogy and then there is a follow up novella too. I have enclosed the link to the first eBook as it is free and if you haven't read it - YOU SHOULD. Even if you have no interest in the Romeo and Juliet storyline - this adventure takes you so far out that fans or haters can both enjoy a fabulous fantasy series.
So which side are you on? A great romance, or stupid teens? Not that your opinion will change mine in the slightest ..... because Shakespeare will always win.

Musers beware you’re in for a scare. These aren’t actually the right words, but if you know the show/book series I’m about to talk about then you know the actual words. “Goosebumps” has been around since the 90s and was one of my favorite book series growing up. They even were in my elementary school library, as well as you could buy them at the book fairs we had.
Disney plus even made a new series based on these books which is also on Hulu. There’s also an original show that follows them that came out in the late 90s as well quickly becoming a staple for alot of 90s kids childhood. So growing up with these originals I was a little skeptical about this new series. Though hearing it’s RL Stine approved I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m glad I did, yes it’s different as this one follows a storyline and the original show and books were just one story line each episode unless it had a part two, which some did.
These stories basically got children into horror, though honestly it’s more like horror comedy. You could say its a gateway to horror. Start out lighthearted, then let them watch scarier stuff. Ease them into it. Each story follows a different kid overcoming something like take one of my favorites for instance. “Welcome to Horrorland”. Its basically a family that goes into a haunted amusement park. Can they survive and leave the park? Well I don’t know. A lot of them have a twist ending. Some you could see coming, some you may not.
If you’ve never read or seen “Goosebumps” I highly suggest you fix that, especially as the new series is still on going.

Each week, I'll be giving you my two cents on the songs I think you should be listening to each week!
Green Day - Look Ma, No BrainsGreen Day never disappoint when they release an album, and I've been moshing in my car to this the past week!
Pendulum & Scarlxrd - Mercy KillingIf you like drum and bass, Pendulum is always a good group to go to. I haven't heard of Scarlxrd before but the gravely vocals totally work with the tone of the song.
Normandie - RitualNormandie are a Swedish band that are described as Nordic metal, but they lean more toward indie rock to me. The vocalist has a great voice and the songs are always good...defo worth a listen.
Olivia Rodrigo - Can't Catch Me NowThe music from any of The Hunger Games has always been fantastic, so I'm looking forward to more songs releasing. I've not been a fan of the kind of songs that Olivia brings out, but I really liked this.
Theo Bleak - I Look Like A Fool To YouTheo Bleak is a new to me singer, but I fell in love with this song and it's perfect for a scene I'm working on for Take the Lead, Rebel Books book 3. She has a unique voice and I look forward to listening to her back catalogue.
Romy -LifetimeHeard this song on an episode of the BBC show, Time (which is excellent this season and has some amazing actresses including Jodie Whittaker) and it's defo a boppy, floor filler.
Zara Larsson & David Guetta - On My LoveThis is a song I heard on Strictly Come Dancing over the weekend and added it to the Take the Lead Playlist. Sorcha is a character who loves to hit the dancefloor and this would defo be a song to get Sorcha moving.

Firefly - unless you have been living under a rock since 2002 I imagine you are at least vaguely aware that it exists. If nothing else you will see it consistently posted on "Shows Cancelled Too Soon" lists.
Firefly was the brainchild of Joss Whedon, and yes as annoying as he can be, this was actually brilliant. So many things went wrong along the way with the network decisions, it is my firm belief that Fox intended this to be cancelled from day 1, for whatever reason. They aired the episodes out of order (which they actually did with another cancelled too soon show - Almost Human - that made the story almost impossible to follow due to the screwed up character development with episodes all over the place), and they only ever aired 11 of the 14 stopping it when they cancelled it. (The full 14 aired in the UK but I am not sure if they aired in the right order). As an example of how insane this was - Fox aired the PILOT as the final episode. I mean seriously - if that wasn't a point that they never planned to keep it I don't know what is.
The show was packed with famous people but probably best known now for Nathan Fillian's role as Captain Mal Reynolds. For those that watch Castle there were several references to his "Space Cowboy" role throughout most notably when he went as that character for a Halloween episode. Other people that had smaller roles include the likes of Mark Shepard (who honestly has pretty much had a role in ALL the great sci fi shows - and yes, if you watch the trailer below I picked that version because he is in it), and even a very young Zac Effron. Summer Glau was spotted in an episode of Angel (also by Joss Whedon) and was then cast in this, and is another face I am sure you would recognize.
Following it's cancellation Fans (we call ourselves Browncoats) took to campaigning for it to be picked up again and shockingly, against all odds, they did get a brief reprise for a movie that actually aired in movie theaters. This may or may not have been the best plan as it definitely did not hit the great numbers they were hoping for, something I think may have been better as a made for TV option. That being said it was a very expensive production - that I like to pretend doesn't exist other than for mentions in articles like this when I am talking about it. I NEVER rewatch it (although I do own the DVD), and if I get my way I probably never will.
Instead I will sit and pretend that it ended with Episode 14 - the original final episode planned but never aired by Fox. Hey at least they are on the DVDs!
To finish here are a few fun facts (well that amuse me).
There is a lot of swearing in the show but the censors never caught it because it is all in Chinese. Something I don't think they would get away with today. As the idea was this was set in a future where the US and China were the world Alliance it makes sense.
The ship the Serenity inside was actually built to scale and used. In the Serenity sequel you can actually see a continuous shot - it is pretty impressive.
The cast became close and often guest appear in other shows together (although the best ones are where they make Firefly references obviously). They also used to hang out on the lounge set of the ship between takes rather than going to the Green room or their trailers.
The theme song (which I have included as an extra video) was actually written by Joss Whedon and on some of the DVD extras you can hear a recording of it done by him as he had finished the song before the show was greenlit.
And finally, there are LOTS of references to other huge Sci Fi shows and movies of the time that pop up during the show. I won't list all the ones I know but if you do decide to watch - keep your eyes open.

Each week, I'll be giving you my two cents on the songs I think you should be listening to each week!
It's slim pickings this week I'm afraid folks, here's hoping for a better week of releases next week!
Green Day - The American Dream is Killing MeWhat a tune! This is the kind of rebellious FU kind of song that we know and love from Green Day! It's the kind of anthem that thousands of fans will enjoy singing back to the band in stadiums all around the world.
Chelsea Wolfe - Whispers in the Echo ChamberI've always loved Chelsea's voice, it's so haunting, and this video is epically gothic. It could be used in a TV show or a movie!
Everything Everything - Cold ReactorWhen I saw Everything Everything live, they were wearing similar outfits to this video LOL except it was boiler suits!! Everything Everything is a band you should check out if you like unique voices and quirky melodies.
Zayde Wolfe, EDVN, & Sam Tinneaz - ManiacIf you've taken the time to listen to any of my writing playlists, then you already know that both Zayde Wolfe and Sam Tinneaz featured on a of them. EDVN is a new to me artist but I will definity be checking out others songs from him.
Throwback Track
If the DJ played this then you knew your night was gonna be epic LOL

Do I have a thing for bad guys? Maybe. But don’t we all? But this one Marvel character is a favorite and a main character in a Disney+ series. And that is “Loki”.
This series picks up where his appearance in “Endgame” left off. But this trickster ends up at the TVA where all the timelines are studied. So will he do good there or will he end up destroying it? I love Loki In every single thing he is in and that includes all the Avengers movies but this series highlights just him and it even brings everything in the multiverse to life. What do I mean by that? Sorry can’t go into more details because spoilers, but if you love Loki just as much as I do or maybe even just like them a little then you definitely should check this out.
I mean giving Loki has his own show, thinking how he is you know he’d love that, and you’ll probably be surprised along the way, that’s always a good thing with Marvel.

As Marvel things go I don't mind Loki, although I will say I preferred the Falcon and Winter Soldier series ..... so for those that missed it 2 years ago .... here is my LOKI / Legends of Tomorrow comparison.
Loki is currently steaming on Disney+

Each week, I'll be giving you my two cents on the songs I think you should be listening to each week!
This week feels like it's mostly Irish artists, which is always a good thing!
Ryan Sheridan - TimeI have been a fan of Ryan's music and his voice, so was delighted to find out that he was releasing new music. I met him once, many, many years ago at a fan meet and greet and he is genuinely one of the nicest people you could meet. Time is a steering wheel tapping, windows down kinda song that will get your shoulders moving and maybe giving a one finger salute if you've had a bad day! If you haven't listened to any of Ryan's music before, then and stream all his songs now!
Dermot Kennedy - SundayIf you've ever listened to any of my book playlists, then you know I adore Dermot and his voice. Sunday is a song that showcases his voice with brutally honest lyrics about a love lost, and the regret, as well as the wish to go back and relive the good times. An honest, raw, song that only showcases just how talented Dermot is by a performance with just a piano and his wonderful, wonderful voice.
The Neon Cars - Sitting in the BackseatOf course I had to throw a Cork band into the mix! The Neon Cars is definitely a band to watch and I think they will have a great career ahead of them. I don't think I've heard a bad song from them since I first heard them on the radio...
Pa Sheehy - WretchedAnother incredible artist and voice, Pa Sheehy has a voice that is instantly recognizable. A friend of mine showed me some videos of a performance that Pa did in a church and it was WOW! I loved Pa when he was part of the band Walking on Cars, and he's on my list of artists I'd love to see live.
Gavin James - White NoiseWell, the last of my Irish list this week is Gavin James! I really like this catchy boppy song that will have you singing along in the car and tapping the steering wheel...or your feet depending on where you hear it!
Jazzy - StardustThis was the first time I'd heard of Jazzy and it reminded me of an old school floorfiller from the 90's and 00's.
Dead Poet Society - How Could I Love You? Right, let's finish with a rockier song! I've loved a lot of songs that Dead Poet Society have done and this one has already been added to my writing playlists! I have an angsty Rebel County book coming in 2024 and this song is the perfect one for a certain character that you've met briefly in Secrets in Ink
Throwback Track
If you asked me what song made me fall in love with songs that took a classical song and melded it with other genres, then this song is it...It was also a staple of dance music in the 90's.
|
This week Jenn is talking about a horror series that most of you are probably at least vaguely familiar with - unlike the weirdness Susan and I are sharing with the 31 Days lol And yes - you might feel like you are experiencing a little Deja Vu from last week .... but this is all new! Make sure you scroll down for details on how to enter the giveaway too, and as always be sure to let us know what you think! |

This movie is one that I’ve seen but honestly maybe never the whole way through, and that’s Nightmare on Elm Street. To tell you the truth I think I only watch it for Robert Englund, the actor who plays Freddy. He’s so amazing it’s like he embodies Freddie and the role, I could talk about how I love him forever, but it’s his character not him I want to discuss in this article.
Now I’m sure everyone knows who Freddy is even if you’ve never seen a Nightmare on Elm Street movie. At this point he’s a pretty famous horror icon, and some people dress up for him every year on Halloween. I know I’ve seen a few come to my door, they’ll even go to cons as Freddy. I think some of the best Freddy cosplays are the gender bend ones. Absolutely amazing.
In the movie, the character of Freddy is basically killed in a fire, but keeps coming back as a dream demon, well I guess that’s how he can kill you in your dream and make it stick in the real world. All I can say is I’m glad Freddy is only in the imagination of Wes Craven because if he wasn’t, then I’d definitely never sleep again.
One two Freddie’s coming for you, three four better lock your door, five six grab your crucifix, seven eight better stay up late, nine ten never sleep again.

Ooooh I used to sing that little rhyme all the time years back lol. I am not a huge Nightmare on Elm Street fan other than the first one. I mean if you haven't seen it, then watch just for Johnny Depp - although he does play the epitome of a pretty boyfriend with no brains. I mean he had ONE thing to do ... ONE ... and he lasted about 5 minutes without doing it.
I will agree that Robert Englund is fabulous as Freddy though. I think I have seen all of the movies at least once, and the remake, but honestly, none compare to the first in my opinion.

Each week, I'll be giving you my two cents on the songs I think you should be listening to each week!
Fred Again...&Jozzy - tenI'm quite fond of Fred Again... Listening to his music reminds me of teen listening to pirate radio, when dance music was good and original, and reminded me of the good ole days. If you liked this, then check out out Clara (The night is dark) It's my fave song of his.
Paloma Faith- How You Leave A ManPaloma Faith has one of those instantly recognizable voices and I love this upbeat, let's go girl's kinda song about leaving that man behind who didn't threat you well.
Blink 182 - Fell In LoveBlink 182 are on a roll with all their new releases and I am here for it. They have adapted their songs to appeal to newer listeners, but also kept with their signature sound and silliness to appease the elder emo's. This is just one of those silly songs with lyrics that make ya wanna smile.
Beartooth - I Was AliveI'd heard of Beartooth before, even listened to a few songs, but having listened to a few songs on their new album, I'll defo be checking them out. Not sure I'm digging the pink suits in the music video but that's okay!
Feeder - Playing with FireAh, Feeder...taking me back to my teen years and two of the best rock songs of the 90's and 00's in Buck Rodgers and Just a Day, Playing with Fire reminds me of those songs and you can defo hear the Feeder sound. This was immediately added to my playlist!!
Rick Astley - Forever and MoreI added this song because it reminded me of Mel! That is all LOL Melanie - Mwahahahah NOT SORRY - Also this does NOT sound like Rick Astley
Yungblud (Ft Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon)Yungblud and Oli team up again for an amazing collab! Love the lyrics and the slightly heavy dance music.
Bring Me The Horizon - DArkSideThis of course is my song of the week! I've made no secret about my love of BMTH or front-man, Oli Sykes - fun fact, my Oli Scott from Rebel County is based off Oli, his middle name is Scott ( See obsessed a little. Love the mix of singing and throaty vocals! Plus, I'm seeing BMTH and Bad Omens in January so I am VERY excited!!!!!
Throwback Track
One of the most annoying trends in music right now is this need to sample older songs, and not for the better...I heard a song on the radio the other morning and was soooo disappointed when it wasn't the absolute banger that is Shanks and Bigfoot, Sweet Like Chocolate, and some poor imitation called Sweet Lies...I don't mind a good cover, but all of those rehashed hits are blah!

It’s Halloween my favorite holiday, so you know we’re going to talk some horror, even if I’m not a fan, and that’s only because I scare easily. My dad never did, but I do. He always thought that they were hilarious. I can’t even do haunted houses without freaking out, hence trying Scream World one year, we didn’t even make it inside.
Well enough about that, I want to talk about Freddy vs Jason, yes this movie got a lot of hate, but I actually enjoyed it. I mean take two horror icons and make them fight each other, what could go wrong? Well a lot actually, Freddy actually only wakes Jason up because he needs his help, meaning the town has forgotten him and he’s lost his control over dreams and the ability to kill in them. So in comes Jason, but you know slashers they listen to no one and that’s exactly what happens here.
Jason goes his own way, pissing off Freddy, that’s where the fighting between them starts. Who wins, well if you haven’t seen this horror icon of a movie then I suggest you watch and find out. Also you know those times where they pick the right actor for a role, and in your mind he’s forever that character, well this happens with Robert Englund. He’s the perfect Freddy, and no one I mean no one could ever take his place. I mean look at the remake, no thanks. I’ll pass

At this point we are 10 1/2 books into Jayne's story (7 Main Jayne Frost Books, 1 Novella, and 2 previous Frost and Crowe) and we are joining the main characters a couple of months after the last story.
General Review
This is exactly the sort of story I have come to expect with Jayne. There is LOTS of food mentioned (which always sounds amazing and makes me hungry), and there is an unusual take on a story idea that has been done before - but this makes it all feel new.
The fact that Jayne and Sin are on the road still touring various stores allows easily for a new adventure without it seeming weird that yet again they are solving a murder, well in this case a cold case .... which is PERFECT for Jayne and a nice throw back to the first Jayne Frost book.
Final Thoughts
In theory, I suppose you could read this as a standalone. Objectively all the information is there to make it work, but I would recommend at least reading the first 2 Frost and Crowe books to get the most enjoyment out of it. Oh and have snacks handy!
Rating:
5 Stars! And a full Melanie's Muses approval!

Jayne Frost and husband Sinclair Crowe are off on another adventure, this time to Nashville, aka Music City, to pay a royal visit to one of the Santa’s Workshops toy stores. Once that’s done, they’ll have a little time to sightsee and play tourist.
Which they do. Until something rather peculiar happens in the Country Music Hall of Fame that leaves Sinclair feeling all shook up.
Suddenly, they have a new mystery to solve. And time is ticking for Sinclair. Even a necromancer can only take so much.
Can Jayne and Sinclair get to the bottom of things before it’s too late?

ARC Book Review With Mel and Sue - Alternate Academy (Alternate Academy Book 1) by Melissa Woods
10/16/2023
Basic Info
Standalone or series?
Melanie - Book 1 in a new series
Susan - Book 1 in a new series
Category
Melanie - YA Paranormal
Susan - YA Paranormal
Official Blurb About The Book
Being a teenager can be hard. Being a teenager with supernatural abilities can be murder.
Nova Harris hasn’t had the easiest life. Her mother died when she was five, and she never knew her father. Her stepdad wasn’t exactly the warm and fuzzy type…but Nova had never meant to kill him. Now Nova has discovered that she is an Alternate – a person with supernatural abilities – and that there are others just like her at Tidemarsh: a school for freaks.
When Nova finds herself drawn to a mysterious boy being held in The Tombs; a place where the most dangerous Alternates are locked away in the dark, she ends up with more questions than answers. The more she explores, the more secrets she uncovers that she really should have left well alone.
Welcome to Alternate Academy, where the only things not falling apart, are probably already on fire!
How did we get this book?
CTP Signed it - and then Susan did the Developmental Edits on it
Why did we choose to read this book: See "How We Got The Book" lol
And Now To The Review!
First Impressions:
Melanie - I love the opening to this book. It's so crazy and drops you right into probably the worst moment so far of Nova's life!
Susan - I am quite fond of a book that slaps you right in the face with something the moment you open the first page and that's exactly what you get when you dive in to Alternate Academy.
General Review
Melanie - Kids with misfit powers and abilities - some of which can kill (either accidentally or on purpose), plus a pretty snarky English teen made this an easy page turner. Some of the abilities make me wonder how they would ever be useful .... and then there are others where I would definitely not mind having. The story layers up as we discover things along with Nova, and one thing is certain ... pretty much nothing here is as it seems. I have read Melissa's work before and I have to say this series has levelled up majorly, and maybe because I know Susan's writing style so well, but I could definitely feel her influence in places, and the final result definitely leads me to want book 2 NOW!
Susan - I fell in love with this book and it's characters right from the get go. This is exactly what I imagine teens would be like if they had special abilities. And like Mel said...some abilities were ones you'd be thrilled to wake up with one day...and others not so much LOL But of course like every great YA book, nothing is quite like it seems and Nova has to find her way in her new normal...
Oh and there's a mysterious, broody, bad boy... #justsayin
Melanie - Oh yep - that too! Am a bit of a fan of a bad boy lol
Final Thoughts
Melanie - . A great start to this new series. I'm very intrigued as to where this will go .... I do know that I wouldn't be sharing Nova's hesitation about certain things lol ... when you read it - you'll get that!
Susan - A brilliant, twisty, opener to a series that's X-Men meets Red Queen and Shatter me with a British twist!
Melanie - Well that made my final thoughts look a bit crap didn't it, but she's not wrong.
Rating
Melanie – 4 1/2 rounded up to 5 stars and a strong recommendation that all Musers go and read it.
Susan - Has to be 5 stars - A brilliant start to what's gonna be a epic series! Go get it now!!

Do you remember we used to feature music quite regularly? Well we are bringing it back - and that would be the "Royal We" as itis in fact ALLLLL Susan! Every week she will be sharing what's new, what we should be checking out, and then it would be a feature here without a little throwback. So sit back - and get ready to jam .... and be sure to let is know what you think!
Susan - Susan Harris is a writer from Cork, Ireland and when she’s not torturing her readers with heart-wrenching plot twists or killer cliffhangers, she’s probably getting some new book related ink, binging her latest TV or music obsession, or with her nose in a book. She is a proud founding Member of the Muser VIPers and is responsible for Melanie not breaking the Website on an almost daily basis!
You can check out all her books on Amazon HERE
Each week, I'll be giving you my two cents on the songs I think you should be listening to each week!
Måneskin - Honey(Are Coming?)Everyone who's been paying attention knows that me and Mel love a bit of Måneskin. I wanna be your slave is our go to song and I think we like it more cause Greg HATES it! Honey (Are U Coming?) has the same catchy qualities of I Wanna be your slave and is full of cheeky and fun lyrics - defo worth checking out and having a bop to.
Ruelle - Mind SpinI've always been a fan of Ruelle and her voice, and Mind Spin begins in a haunting tone before it kicks in. I always think of how cinematic all her songs sound, and there is no surprise how many songs have featured in TV Shows.
Alesso & John Newman (Andromedik remix) Call Your NameI'm currently preparing to write the last book in the Rebel Books series, and Sorcha is found of a boppy track. This song is defo a night out on the dancefloor track or a nod your head in the car kinda song, and I love John Newman's voice.
Gunship ft Lights - Empress of the DamnedWhen I first saw the name of the song and listened to it, I immediately thought of Mel. I mean it totally fits her, right? I like the mix of ominous sounding music, and the dancy undertones. It's defo a song I could see give her song inspiration for a cosplay. And the sudden saxophone that should not sound like it works but it totally does!
Unsecret Quartet - VampireUnsecret are a group that I have followed for their reworks of songs and original tracks for a long time. Cinematic songs is one way to describe them and I have used a fair few songs in cover reveals and book quotes. I was delighted when I found that they had a sort of spin off group that specializes in classic twists on popular songs. I love this version of Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo, far better than the original one!
Joel Corry - Hey DJI'm fully convinced that Joel Corry is the reverse version of Michael Bublé... when Bublé goes into hibernation for summer, Joel comes out with his summer soundtracks. If anyone has read More Than Words, they know I give poor Joel a bit of stick...but in all fairness this track reminds me a little of 90's dance tracks and its another song from Sorcha's playlist. This song is one that will definitely make you wanna go out and hit the dancefloor.
League of Legends ft New Jeans - GodsThis song is taking from League of Legends, which has some really amazing songs. I've gotten a few songs over the years from their playlists. New Jeans (No, Mel not your dancing jeans) is a South Korean girl group that I hadn't heard of before, but I like the sound of their voices, so defo gonna check out some of their songs to see if I can tolerate the popness. Melanie - My dancing jeans are awesome - you need to add some Bollywood in your life lmao.
Wargasm Ft Fred Durst - Bang ya HeadListen, the song had me at Fred Durst, but Bang Ya Head is a hard-hitting electro rock song. it's one of those songs that deserves to be on angry playlist! Probably not a band you guys would have heard of since Wargasm are UK based back, but they have some great songs so you should check them out.
Dance with Me - Blink 182
That opening line of the song OMFG This is my song of the week! I love this so much. it's got that feel good factor that reminds me their early songs and the video is hilarious. Plus any song that includes the a whole chorus for us to sing Olé, olé, olé, olé is defo gonna be a crowd pleaser.
Throwback Track
This weeks throwback track is one of my Noughties fave dance tracks! Not sure if it was big in the US, but this was a staple of the dancefloor when I was young and could tolerate dancefloors LOL

The Crystal Maze! Back in the 90s there was nothing like this game show and when you threw in Richard O'Brien you knew you were in for a good time. Greg swears that they auditioned to find the STUPIDEST contestants ever because sometimes they really are as thick as two short planks. That's OK, because Richard talks to us about them in a super patronizing way, and randomly plays the harmonica. If you watch - look out for the one with the Mensa Member who couldn't solve a puzzle Those comments were CLASSIC!
Basically the game is a huge warehouse split into 4 zones with a bunch of puzzle games in rooms - very much like modern day escape rooms - and yes some of them get locked in. One of the best things about it is that it still works very much today when you watch. Yes the hairstyles etc are a bit dated, but because of how the game is set up there is nothing there that dates it. Some of the exact puzzles were IN the escape room Susan and I did with Greg, just last year.
If you want something a bit different, that you don't really have to pay attention too, and you fancy yelling at the telly (because you will), then check it out. Especially as ALL the episodes are uploaded to YouTube by several people and noone cares enough about the show to get them pulled down!

The Crystal Maze was a staple of my childhood. Just like the show Gladiators, we used to watch the Crystal Maze all the time and I was known to shout at the contestants who did something stupid! There wasn't anything like the Crystal Maze on the TV, and all of the puzzle and challenges were exactly like you'd see now in a modern escape room.
(Myself and Mel defo went full Crystal Maze mode when we did an escape room with Greg last year!)
Probably the best thing about the show was the host, Richard O'Brien. That man was hilarious, and would just run around the zones causing mischief and talking to himself. All of the reboots will never come close to the original.

This show is honestly never something i would have watched, let alone heard about if it wasn’t for Mel’s. That show is actually a game show and it’s the Crystal Maze. It’s really so much fun and something I would have actually loved to do because I’ve always wanted to do an escape room, but some people in my life refuse to do them, unfortunately.
I also love the host who’s from one of my favorite shows rocky horror. Though be forewarned you might end up yelling idiot at the screen multiple times. I know that I sure did. If you’re looking for something light and fun then I highly suggest you give crystal maze a watch

I’ve been on a lgbtq kick lately, and I honestly think it was because of the return of Heartstopper, but this show is much more adult than Heartstopper and that’s Young Royals.
I was a little late with this show but I'm so glad I was because that season one cliffhanger was a killer. This show follows the young prince of Sweden as he gets into trouble and ends up being sent to a boarding school. Willie is not too keen on this at first but then he ends up meet Simon and that basically changes his attitude towards everything until something tragic happens and he’s put in the spotlight even more.
Can these two figure things out, well I don’t know. I'm sure many have not seen Young Royals yet but trust me it’s definitely a must watch especially for any Heartstopper fan.

Melanie - Founder of Melanie's Muses - You should know who I am lol If not click - All about Melanie!
Just over a week later and we are still in recovery mode from FC3 but it is worth it because it is SO MUCH FUN ... but it is also a LOT of work.
I want to start by saying a HUGE thank you to the Musers that came up this year to work with me. To Jenn Rhodes (AKA Anna Parker), Shannon Watts, and Amanda Horton - who without them I can honestly say the 600 Scavenger Hunt packs would NOT have been finished - and they worked their asses off for the whole weekend. From Set up, Running Tables, Sales, - If we needed them they were there! Shannon even became a Taxi service (in her mom mode lol).
To Susan Harris, who travelled from Ireland to be here (OK so that was not ONLY for the Con - it was a visit too) - but she helped with EVERYTHING because fame hasn't turned her into a Diva yet (I mean it hopefully never will ... but it is SUSAN HARRIS THE AUTHOR! ... if you know ... you know).
And Finally to Dana and Troy for driving up to be guests at the con and show people how Musers do Scavenger Hunts! I'm sorry things were so crazy that we didn't get to hang out like last year - This year was definitely more of a "Work Environment".
So what happens now? Well they just announced the dates for next year - September 14th and 15th 2024. You can read all the details HERE.
And for those of you that are wondering if you would like it? Here are a few of the highlights from this year. Check them out and then go enter the giveaway which actually contains one of the Deal or No Deal prizes that wasn't won!

This movie is a bit older and even as a remake but we know remakes usually go. But this could be the rare exception. That movie (or should I say those movies) is “Footloose”. Yes, Kevin Bacon stars in the original but honestly not being a huge Kevin Bacon fan I enjoy the remake a little bit more.
Ren basically moves to a small close knit town that the reverend controls and ever since the death of the reverends son in a fatal car crash there has been no dancing there and basically no fun, at least to the teenagers that live there. That is until Ren. He questions everything, even the reasoning as to why there are no school dances. Catching the eye of the reverends daughter he fights back along with help. Does he change the towns mind?
Well, maybe but if you’ve seen the original but not the remake I highly suggest you give it a chance. It’s actually really good.

So here is where Jenn and I differ. For me the remake was fine but the original is always going to come out on top. Even someone who isn't a Kevin Bacon fan (me) will choose version one lol.

This book, turned movie was a bit of a surprise find for me. By that I mean I saw the trailer on YouTube, realized it was a book so got it and read it in two days. That book is “Red, White and Royal Blue”.
I usually try and read the books first because if I don’t then I won’t, especially after I’ve already seen the movie. “Red white and royal blue” is a lgbtq romance mixed with comedy. Basicaly the first son falls for the prince of England, not at first sight. It’s an enemies to friends to lovers trope which is actually pretty awesome. My advice is definitely read the book first because there’s a lot more than the movie will actually show, and like movies often do, it does leave out a main character from the book.
I’m not saying the movie isn’t great because it is I’m just suggesting you read the book first.

Melanie - Founder of Melanie's Muses - You should know who I am lol If not click - All about Melanie!
As many of you know I have read a lot, and I mean A LOT of vampire books over the years and so it takes something rather unusual to make me take notice. Vicky had been talking about the first book for a while, but she knows me well, and probably realized that the chances of me actually getting it were slim ... and so she sent it to me......and then when the second part came out she sent that too.
Blood Orange (book 1) starts with a plethora of trigger warnings, including a couple that I didn't actually understand and had to google (which got the book put on the shelf for a while - not because of any of the warnings, I am just not a fan of them in general). The trigger warnings can be summed up with - this is a dark vampire romance, with graphic bdsm scenes, and violence. It is definitely not a book that everyone will want to read (but remember you can enter the giveaway and I can send them to a Muser that WILL love them).
Fans of the later books in Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series would, I feel, enjoy the duet a lot. It does pull from a lot of Dracula references, which as I have read and watched many incarnations of that particular vampire, I definitely recognized the original source material. Karina also pulls from some Lovecraftian ideas, so there really is a lot going on.
For me personally, I don't think the blurb does the series justice. The tagline "My Heart Will Always Find Yours" is definitely the important part and the rest, well the rest makes a lot more sense after you read the book - which is generally not the best plan for blurbs. I also felt that book 1 was stronger than the second one, but I like my reads dark, and the ending of book 1 definitely fits that, with book 2 conforming more to general reader expectations.
Overall, I enjoyed reading what is probably the first series I have read "just for fun" since I can't even remember as usually everything has at least some tenuous link to work even if they are books I genuinely love.

I’ve talked about this show before, but since season two came out recently, I thought that it could use a bit more love and another round of well deserved thunderous applause. Of course, that show is “Heartstopper”.
This Netflix show is just absolutely amazing. I mean just with the lgbtq representation alone, and that’s not even including the friendships that you see develop along the way. Charlie and Nick are the cutest couple and honestly Nick’s journey as navigating being bisexual through highschool, and trying to come out, kind of mirrors my own journey.
I’m so glad that’s there for kids nowadays especially since you honestly don’t see a lot of bi representation out there. Season two basically expands on the lives and journeys of these characters, and in my opinion it’s way better than season one. I mean I’ve only rewatched it four times already, but if you haven’t yet watched “Heartstopper” then I highly suggest you do.

Melanie - I just want to add that I loved season 1 and have started season 2 but it has been a bit crazy here. Season 1 was super cute, and it had Olivia Coleman in it which is always a bonus because I love her! Longtime fans might remember that when Season 1 came out it remined me a lot of my old school - and I dressed accordingly for one of the live shows!
