It's a sort of history telling of Catherine the Great, and I do mean sort of because honestly I feel like none of it was historically accurate except maybe the names. But that’s alright it was still a good story, especially season two. I stopped watching in the middle of season three because they make you like Philip then boom gone, and yes he dies but if you know the actual history then that had to happen for Catherine to be leader of Russia. So I wouldn’t really call that a spoiler! If you’re looking for something different or maybe even something historical then i would definitely recommend giving “The Great” a try. Just a warning, you’ll end up hating every character at some point and I do mean all, which I can honestly say has never happened for me with any other show. Don’t worry though, hating the characters doesn’t take away from you enjoying the show, at least not in my opinion.
