With The Tudors giveaway still being live I thought you might like to read my review from when the book was released in 2018 and it was actually my surprise book find of the year! (If you haven't entered the giveaway you can do so HERE)
Now For The Review Standalone or series? Standalone How did I get this book? Random send by the publisher Why did I choose to read this book: I love the Tudor history and this looked interesting. Genre Historical Fiction (with some biographical aspects) And Now To The Review! First Impressions: This is slightly different from many that I have read with each "Queen" having her own voice given via being written by a separate author, and then one consistent author voice throughout, for the King. General Review I absolutely adore the Tudor history, both the actual history and various retellings that have occurred over the years (yes including the JRM TV show), and so I was very excited to see another version hitting the shelves. Each queen managed to capture the voices much as I have imagined them over the years but I loved the slightly unique idea of hearing things from only their point of view. We all know that when it comes to history the victors generally write the history, the losers are either forgotten, or their tales are considered bitter, and the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Obviously the truth lies somewhere in the middle, but for me, this FELT real as I was reading it. Each of the queens broke my heart in their own way, and the king, well the King's portrayal was exactly as I have always imagined he would be. Final Thoughts A must-read for lovers of this time period. The best piece of historical fiction I have read in years! (This remains true even 5 years later!!) Rating: 5 stars (even though I noted that the time that simply isn't enough!) As always let me know what you think in the comments! Pineapple Code word for this article is Henry |
