Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box. Day 5 - Jump Street - 1987 / 2012 - Jenn Some shows go from tv to movies, though if they do that then they’re usually very different from each other and this one isn’t any different. 21 Jump Street with Johnny depp, a very young Johnny Depp, was no exception. Its about these cops that just looked young, so they where put in a undercover operative that went to high schools and solved cases maybe regular officers couldn’t. now the remakes of these were not another show but movies instead. Two movies to be exact though I wasn’t a fan of the second one, the first one wasn’t too bad. Johnny Depp even had a cameo in the first. So that was cool. You know I love Johnny Depp, but then the second movie really got off track. Ok it was in college. Anyone can go to college, they wouldn’t need a younger looking officer for that but whatever. Anyways my advice is watch the series, then the first 21 jump street movie starring Chad Michael Murray and Jonah Hill, but definitely skip the second. It totally wasn’t needed. Melanie Says - I loved the original Jump Street TV show and have to say the remake of this into a movie wasn't bad. I agree that they didn't need the 2nd one (they really needed a better story for that), but the first one had enough nods to the original show (including the Johnny Depp Cameo), but in an updated fashion. Personally, I didn't care for the casting, but they did a decent job and if you liked the original show it is definitely worth a watch. Have you seen it? What did you think?
