An Intro From Dave A year ago I was tasked with a top secret mission. Melanie: I want a list for next July. Like the opposite of everybody else’s “Christmas in July”. Something with a “Dave spin” on it. So my mind went to work. It almost took on several different incarnations before landing here. It could have Christmas Horror. It could have been Halloween themed. Then it started as a random list of movies that got buried in the sands of time that people forgot. That's actually our specialty. But I also included a few that made money but seemed to have been forgotten since then, as I haven’t heard much about them since their release. So hop in, buckle your seatbelt, and remember to keep your hands inside the ride at all times. Day 31 - The Terminal (2004) - JennThis movie I found interesting from the very beginning. I just mean the premises behind it, and add Tom Hanks. Hello! And that movie is "The Terminal". Guy can’t enter United States or go home. So he’s pretty much in limbo, which sucks but then again making the airport your home is pretty interesting. I mean I wouldn’t want to live there, but for a movie it’s interesting and I definitely say check it out. Melanie Says - It's almost impossible to believe that this partly based on a true story, well I guess inspired by would be more accurate. Still crazy! Have you seen it? What did you think? Day 30 - Alice (Syfy mini series) (2009) - DaveThis is an interesting take on the Alice in Wonderland story taking place about 150 years later in a modernized and fantasized, futuristic world. Some great updates though. Jenn Says - "Alice in Wonderland" or just "Alice" as this movie is known, is a remake or retelling of that famous story. Though this one takes a stranger turn than usual. It’s more modern day with almost punk twist, at least their version of the mad hatter looks more punk to me, and not your normal way that he usually looks. Well if you’ve seen all the original retellings of the classic tale, and you want something different for it then "Alice" is your story. It was very underrated so I'm not sure if many have actually heard of it. Melanie Says - Definitely one of the best adaptations out there and so full of star power. I adore Andrew Lee Potts (although I found this after I knew him from Primeval and then True Bloodthirst) and he is a fabulous Hatter! Throw in Kathy Bates and Tim Curry and really what have you got to lose?! Have you seen it? What did you think? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! Everyone needs a mindless fun movie to just chill with! This is it! And of course, if you like bonus features and commentaries, this has one of the best. The writers make a drinking game out of the movie and get plastered, order a pizza, invite the delivery guy to watch the movie with them, and one of them calls home to have his wife come and get him! Ummm, correction, TO WALK THERE to drive him home, since he took the car. Jenn Says - Eurotrip is kind of a sequel. well sort of but I like this one better than "Road Trip" anyways. After graduation Scotty finds out that his girlfriend has been cheating on him, and through a song no less. Then thinking a girl he was talking to online is actually a guy, he tells her off but then realizes his mistake. so grabbing his friends, he takes a European road trip to find this girl and explain everything. Craziness ensues and he travels from one side of Europe to the other. Does he find the girl, and explain his mistake, well? You know me so all I’ll say is go watch and you definitely can watch this without seeing "Road Trip". Melanie Says - This is definitely a movie about stereotypes. I often wonder if this is kinda how America tourists see Europe? I will say there are definitely some things in this movie that definitely do happen lol (yup some countries are CRAZY)! Overall these type of movies are not my thing BUT I do get a kick out of this particular one. Have you seen it? What did you think? Kiss fans hit the road to Detroit to see their favorite band in 1978, hitting a few bumps along the way. Melanie Says - Oh movies like this bring back so many memories lol Such fun! Have you seen it? I’m not sure honestly if many people have heard of it but this feel good movie is definitely not one to be missed, and that’s "Secondhand lions". From the title, you might be thinking --what? But trust me this sweet movie might just be what you need if feeling down. This is about a boy who goes to stay with his rich uncles, and ends up having the family he always wanted, if his no good mom doesn’t come back and ruin everything. He also ends up teaching his uncles that maybe having him around isn’t so bad either. Melanie Says - This reminds me of the old Disney movies like Candleshoe. If you haven't seen it you really should (although Michael Cane's accent takes a bit of getting used to lol). There are actually a lot of big names to look out for, some in young appearances but half the fun there is spotting them (or not if you are me - I just wait for Greg to tell me after guessing wrong a bunch of times). Its a straight up spoof. You can gather that much from the title itself. A descendant of the legendary Van Helsing, Stan leads this parody of the horror genre as he encounters spoofed versions of Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, etc. If you want horror, look elsewhere. If you miss the "Scary Movie" franchise, this is the movie for you. Melanie Says - Hmmm I was tempted by the title but I can't stand the Scary Movie Franchise - I bet Em and Greg would like this though! Have you seen it? What did you think? Day 25 - The Watch (2012) - JennThis movie title may make you go WHAT?, but trust me it’s actually interesting. "The Watch" is about a group of friends who live close to each other and form none other than a neighborhood watch. But seeing something weird one night, they decide to investigate. When they do, they find something that they definitely don’t expect to find, and they also realize that maybe one member of the group is not who they really say they are. What does this group find out? I forgot, so go watch it for yourselves :) Melanie Says - OMG I can't believe I haven't seen that! We will be rectifying that very soon! Have you seen it? Williams has a little more than a cameo in this film but overall, his performance and delivery of some of the dialog steals the show. A bit of a thriller about a woman with memory loss but is retaining flashes of a past life where she was murdered. Excellent work. Part noir, part thriller, part murder mystery, all entertainment. Melanie Says - I remember watching this in the movie theatre and thinking it was just totally inspired. Definitely a movie that is seriously underrated and I agree Dave, although Robin Williams part is small - it is one of the things I remember the most clearly! Have you seen it? What did you think? Day 23 - A League Of Their Own (1995) - Jenn This movie is a great reminder that women can do anything they set their mind to. Even play softball in a actual league when all the men have gone to war. "A League of Their Own" is about two sisters who love softball. Though one is better at it then the other. A scout seeing their games asks them, well the older sister anyways, if she’d be interesting in joining or auditioning for a pro league. Turning it down, it’s actually her sister that ends up talking her into it, not wanting to be stuck in the town she’s in forever. I think some of us can relate to that. Not only does this movie show the power and heart of women. The message is phenomenal. If you have a dream and believe in it, nothing is impossible unless you give up. Melanie Says - I never really watched this one but I know it is loved by many. I think just because baseball really isn't a thing in England. Lots of big names in this though! Have you seen it? Day 22 - The Perfect Score (2004) - DaveTypical teen comedy about stealing the SAT's for the answers so they can pass. Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson. If it helps, you can think of as an Avengers prequel! Melanie Says - lol @ the Avengers stuff! Oh the days when high school movies had 99% of the class that could in no way pass for high school lmao. I never really understood the SAT stuff till I moved here - but now I get it! Have you seen it? What did you think? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! What can I say about it besides it’s hilarious and Rob Schneider as a girl is definitely not something you want to miss. Basically teenage highschool girl finds cursed earrings, looses one, which is then found by someone else. He puts it on and they basically switch bodies, think "Freaky Friday" but way better. So trying to figure everything out. She goes to her best friend for help, who at first doesn’t believe her and thinks she’s crazy. Yes she proves it’s her and with the help of some new friends. They try and figure out what’s going on and how she possibly could get back to normal. Melanie Says - I am a sucker for body switch movies - I honestly don't think that there are any that I don't enjoy. Such fun! Have you seen it? What did you think? Day 20 - Batchelor Party (1984) - DaveBefore Tom Hanks became "Oscar award winner Tom Hanks", he did some screwball comedies. This is one of them. Personally, I prefer movies like this and "Money Pit", etc over "Forrest Gump". Melanie Says - I agree that Forest Gump is overrated in the grand scheme of things and ALWAYS comes up with Tom Hanks. Personally I am more a fan of Big! Have you seen it? What did you think? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! An Intro From Dave A year ago I was tasked with a top secret mission. Day 19 - Coyote Ugly (2000) - Dave An aspiring songwriter takes a job at a bar while waiting for her big break. Fun little film. One point of note for me-- I will always identify this movie with the Kevin Bacon film "Hollow Man" because both opened the same weekend. I wanted to see both and had to decide which to see first. Ended up seeing both that weekend instead of putting one off. Ended up liking this one more. Wasn't impressed with "Hollow Man" too much. Jenn Says - This movie I wasn’t so sure about, but after seeing it I loved it. "Coyote Ugly" is one of those that you shouldn’t judge it before watching. Girl wants too be a song writer, but feels like she’s going nowhere starts too work at a bar where the bartenders don’t just bartend but dance as well. Does this shy girl finally come out of her shell and into her own, well maybe musers and that’s all I’ll say. Melanie Says - I LOVE this movie! I can't even tell you how many times I have watched it. I will forever associate the Kid Rock song "Cowboy" with this movie, I wanted to dance on a bar, (I tended bar when this came out but it was NOTHING like this), I loved the side characters, and there's a decent romance story too. It's cheesy, fabulous, and everyone should watch it. You know they even had a reality show "The Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search" that ran for 2 seasons after this! Oh and if you watch the cancelled Fox show "The Big Leap" also staring Piper Perabo you will see at least a great nod to this movie! Have you seen it? What did you think?
