May Remakes & Reboots - Day 30- Roswell (1999) / Roswell, New Mexico (2019)

Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box.

Another show, another CW remake. Like really, have you run out of ideas CW? but whatever! Roswell is another one I absolutely adored even though as usual I was late to the watch party for it. Though the remake I can say is absolutely horrible and I’m putting that nicely, (Don’t get me wrong I did like a few aspects of the remake but that was ruined by the CW early on), giving up on their version of it really wasn’t that hard for me. The names of the characters remain the same, but other than that there's nothing the same about the original and it’s remake.

Unlike the original the kids are no longer in high school, so giving us a grown up version is where this started. Nothing wrong with that unless you don’t know what you’re doing and they don’t. I know I’m being harsh but the original was a masterpiece. So if you’ve seen that then I’d skip the remake for your own benefit. But then again if you haven’t, you may enjoy the Roswell remake. Who knows but I definitely do not.

Melanie Says - I liked the original from what I remember of it and Greg and I were interested in seeing the remake.  We started it - and we didn't hate it.... but it just kinda sits on the list of shows that someday we might get back to eventually ..... but probably won't.
