Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box. Day 3 - Miranda (2009) Call Me Kat (2021) - Jenn"Call Me Kat" is the Americanized version of "Miranda", though pretty much after the first couple episodes it took its own turn, which I’m actually happy for. The few similarities they kept were the mom, and how Kat and Miranda can be so socially awkward but honestly you still have to love them anyways. Now if you’ve seen Miranda you know that Gary was it for Miranda, though they both dated different people at first, well Kat's Gary is named Max, and they belong together but you know how that goes. It will take awhile, but hopefully not to long. Call me Kat is funny and quirky and even if you like Miranda that’s alright because sometimes reboots aren’t for everyone. Dave Says - When I heard about making a US version of “Miranda”, I thought— how bad are they gonna screw this up?”. Admittedly, it took a little getting used to but it kept inching further away from the original material and forging new ground. Having the star, writer and producer of the original show, Miranda Hart, on board helps that. Melanie Says -NOPE! Greg and I couldn't get past the second episode. LOVE LOVE LOVE Miranda but for us the American one tried too hard to do the same thing - and it didn't work. Dave and Jenn assure me that it gets better but I am still not convinced. Also the original Miranda has Tom Ellis sooooo I mean come on! You can't beat that. Oh also Patricia Hodge as Penny (Miranda's Mum) - Enough said! Have you seen them? What did you think? Original, Remake, or Neither? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! Note the trailer is for Miranda Season 2 - but it gives you the idea. At the time of writing a trailer for Season 1 was unavailable (or at least Mel couldn't find it).
