May Remakes & Reboots - Day 24 - Overboard - (1987) / (2018)

Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box.

Overboard is definitely a classic in my opinion and I absolutely adore it, so when they decided to remake it but in a different way I thought I don’t know, but why not. So I went to see it and all I can say from that experience is why? Why? Why? This is one of those instances that they should of just left well enough alone. The remake was horrible, and if you’ve seen it you may understand just what I mean, though some may of liked it as well, but after seeing the original I honestly don’t get how anyone could like or enjoy the remake of Overboard.

Dave Says - Absolutely loved the original. I can't tell you how many times I watched that one and just laughed and laughed! I can, however, tell you how many times I watched the remake. Zero.
