Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box. Day 4 - Being Human - 2009 (UK) / 2011 (US) - MelanieThe first 3 seasons (well 2 1/2) of the UK Being Human are sublime! I adore them and even more so the main character Mitchell (who Greg HATES with a vengeance and calls him cry baby Mitchell - but I digress). My DaisyVamp name that still occurs in places was derived from Daisy who appears in Season 2 and LOVES her Vampire self. There's more story to that - but that is a tale for another time. The UK version is dark, and gritty, and well it sounds crazy but just more real. Sadly things take a turn in the creativity and although I tried to watch S4 - the cast change didn't work and they slowly replaced the whole cast until it was almost a reboot of the show all on its own..... but the first 3 (2 1/2 seasons - AMAZING) As with most amazing UK shows when the US tries to copy the premise it ends up being a fail. For me this is definitely one of those times. Em loved it (and that is pretty much the only reason I saw any past the pilot episode), and I understand the story fractured off after S1 and went its own way - but I didn't stick around to find out. This version was just too pretty for me, too Hollywood, and it lost some of the raw authenticity that I loved so much in the UK version. For me - the original wins - ALL THE WAY. (Plus it had Gilbert fun - I'll add that video below too lol) Dave Says - A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost live together. This sounds like the beginning of a joke. I heard about the show when the US version premiered. During the season, I watched the UK version. Some spoilers in the first season. A lot was the same then a few changes and then they splinter in Season 2 and have different stories. When the UK version changes its cast, it goes downhill fast. So much so that I stopped watching. At least the US version kept the cast the same in all 4 of their seasons so it didn't decline. Have you seen it? What did you think? Original, Remake, or Neither?
