Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box. Day 19 - Hairspray 1988 / 2007 - Jenn Hairspray has to be one of my absolute favorite musicals. I love the story and I love the music, but then I heard that there was a original Hairspray and it wasn’t a musical. Say what now! That’s right! NOT a musical. I was shocked, but decided I might enjoy it, so checked it out. It basically has the same story line but like I said just without the music. Honestly, this is one time where I say the remake definitely outshines the original in every way or is that just because I’m a musicals freak. Well either way if you like musicals go with the newer hairspray, but if not I’d say the original is more up your alley. Melanie Says - Oh I LOVE the original. Love Love Love it! The remake was decent too - I mean you have to give it up for the cast and Em absolutely love it - but I will always have a huge soft spot for the original! Have you seen it? What did you think? Original, Remake, or Neither? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
