Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box. Day 13 - Friday the 13th 1980 / 2009 - Dave This is an example of learning from the original and still giving some people a reason to complain. Recap— everyone associates Friday the 13th with Jason and associates Jason with the hockey mask. So in the remake, we limit Jason’s mother to the beginning and her death scene. Jason is now featured in the movie and finds his mask in this one instead of waiting 3 movies. And people complained that Jason’s mother was the original killer, not Jason. (insert headslap here) If they had his mother as the killer, they would have complained that she isn't the face of the franchise. Melanie Says - I watched the original movies back in the day but I don't think we bothered with the remake. Just not big enough Jason fans to start with was our biggest issue. If it pops up on one of the streamers who knows, maybe we'll check it out. Have you seen it? What did you think? Original, Remake, or Neither? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
