May Remakes & Reboots - Day 10 - House On Haunted Hill 1959 / 1999

​Remakes were always a thing, even going back to the early days of movies. They’d remake a silent movie when talkies came out, etc. But the further we go, the more they remake. In todays world DVDs, Blu Rays, and five billion streaming channels, we feel there is less and less need for them. Most of them are pretty easy to find if you are interested in watching them. But Hollywood insists on rebranding and making a new version, trying to improve upon the original. “Psycho”? You can’t improve it. You can’t change it. You made the same movie again. Why? They are useless. Occasionally they get it right. Not all of these are winners though. Its a mixed bag. Some good, some bad, some just out of the box.

Day 10 -House On Haunted Hill 1959 / 1999 - Melanie

 Let me start by saying I love both versions of this movie. The original is a Vincent Price classic, and you have to respect that, and the remake upped the stakes, pushed some boundaries, and has James Marsters in it (for about 2 minutes lol). 40 years is a long time especially in the movie world and these movies definitely reflect that. It's crazy that the more recent version was STILL over 20 years ago! With the way movies are going we are probably due for a new one any time now.

Dave Says - I loved the original with Vincent Price. A lot of changes were made for the 1999 version. Raising the stakes and scares. The mildness of 1959 wouldn't cut it in todays horror world.
