An Intro From Dave A year ago I was tasked with a top secret mission. Melanie: I want a list for next July. Like the opposite of everybody else’s “Christmas in July”. Something with a “Dave spin” on it. So my mind went to work. It almost took on several different incarnations before landing here. It could have Christmas Horror. It could have been Halloween themed. Then it started as a random list of movies that got buried in the sands of time that people forgot. That's actually our specialty. But I also included a few that made money but seemed to have been forgotten since then, as I haven’t heard much about them since their release. So hop in, buckle your seatbelt, and remember to keep your hands inside the ride at all times. Day 6 - Fright Night 2: New Blood (2013) - DaveWe love the Fright Night movies. This is the 3rd list they have been on. And if we can squeeze them into another, we will! This sequel is unlike most. It acts like the first movie didn't even exist. Charley, Evil Ed and Amy are in Romania and encounter a vampire named Gerri Dandridge (Gerri, not Jerry like in the first one, this is a woman) and enlist the help of vampire expert Peter Vincent. Wait a second! Didn't this happen in the last one? All throughout the movie, I kept waiting for the main characters to say "this again?" or something to that effect but they don't. So basically this sequel is actually a remake to the 2011 Fright Night, which was a remake of the 1985 Fright Night but still called Fright Night 2. You follow me so far? Didn't think so. Overall it wasn't bad but the title is confusing because it implies its a continuation and it has the same characters. But it really isn't. Why not just change the names? Or have some reference to them just going through this a couple years ago? Melanie Says - I call this the version of Fright Night that just needs to be called something else! So there was a Fright Night 2 ACTUAL follow up to the 1988 original that released in 1989 called Fright Night 2. As Dave said we have had several articles about these and that was discussed as a sequel. THAT sequel took some of the 1988 cast - introduced a female lead vamp related to the original vamp from the first movie- and went from there. When you then see there is a follow up to the 2011 Fright Night remake called Fright Night 2: New Blood (With the original cover by the way very much copying the original Fright Night 2 cover), you expect a sequel .. BUT NO! For whatever reason, known only to those involved, they decided to sort of remake the remake and add in all new people to play the roles we already know, steal a bit of the story from the original Fright Night 2, a bit from the original Fright Night - and voila - A BIG OLD MESS! Day 5 - I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (2009) - Dave Based on a best selling book but the movie failed to find its audience and make an impression. Pretty much its a bachelor party/road trip/strip club journey to hell and back. Mostly to hell though. Wild and crazy antics and depression made for an odd combination in this Not Safe For Prudes movie. Melanie Says - I can't believe with a title like this, and a description like that, that we haven't seen it. Will have to rectify that lol Have you seen it? What did you think? Day 4 - Blades of Glory (2007) - JennThis has to be one of my favorite movies about friendship out there. "Blades of Glory". I remember seeing in the theaters over and over again, because I just couldn’t get enough of it, which at that time was rare for me. This movie about skating rivals turned friends is absolutely hilarious. It basically starts as them being rivals in men's figuring skating, but doing something stupid and getting banned. A few years later they realize that the only way to get around the ban is to team up and enter teams figure skating, which happens to open a whole lot of other problems including new rivals. Do these two work together and win the gold? Well you just need to watch and see for yourselves because I promise you that you will definitely laugh from start to finish in this movie. Dave Says - This movie is a little out of wheel house but it works. Not a huge Will Ferrell fan and wasn't a Napoleon Dynamite fan. But if you put them together in an ice skating movie (also not my usual thing), maybe it can work wonders. Melanie Says - There is literally noone in this movie that I would normally bother with. I will confess the music in the trailer made me pay attention - and as stupid and crazy as this movie is - it actually works! Have you seen it? What did you think? I know it definitely did with me when I first saw it. "In Time" is one of those what if movies that may not be for everyone because at times it can get a little dark. It plays with the notion that if instead of money, people had to pay for everything with time, even getting paid that way from your jobs and if your clock runs out, then well… yea moving on. This movie starring Justin Timberlake is interesting to say the least, but honestly it’s not really a rewatch movie. Well at least not for me. It’s good, but like I said it’s dark, different and not for everyone. Dave Says - Normally I avoid Justin Timberlake movies like the plague but the concept of this intrigued me. Good story, entering into a whole new world where time is money-- literally. The one part I think they failed on is the lack of bonus features to explore the world, creation of it and rules, etc. Melanie Says - I have never heard of this one but I kinda wanna watch it now lol Have you seen it? Port Chester University, or its been slangly dubbed, Political Correct University is at the center stage of this cult film. Jeremy Piven, Jon Favreau and David Spade star. With that line up, how can you go wrong? I can't tell you how many times I have quoted this movie. "Don't wear the t-shirt of the band you are going to see. Don't be that guy". Melanie Says - This is one I feel like I should have seen, but am not 100% sure I did. I used to watch most things David Spade was in so I would be surprised if I hadn't - but I will ask Greg. He'll probably know lol. Have you seen it? What did you think? Be sure to let us know in the comments below! An Intro From Dave A year ago I was tasked with a top secret mission. James Woods, Kirsten Dunst, Josh Hartnett, and Kathleen Turner. Definitely out of my usual wheelhouse as its a drama but I absolutely loved the surrealism and the downward spiral of it all. Not a love story. Not a good time flick. Something to set the tone and remind us that sometimes its not always the kids. The parents can do damage to the kids all on their own. Melanie Says - I vaguely remember when this came out and being really curious as to if it was based on a real story (for the record it isn't - but it was based on a book). This is a perfect movie to start this list as I had totally forgotten it existed lol. I may have to go hunt it out now! Have you seen it? What did you think?
