31 Days Of Halloween Movies 2022 - Day 5 - Monster Squad

Round 3 of my 31 Days of Horror. Getting a little bit harder to find some hidden gems and not repeat myself. Next year may take a little twist or a new direction. This year’s list has a few surprises too. But you'll see what they are when you check back every day. 

The Monster Squad (1987)

Dave Says -

Classic Universal monsters join forces to take over the world and are fought off by kids. Not really sure if I should categorize this as horror though. Its one of those that are more comedy than horror. It fell between the cracks as the studio didn't know how to market it. Some elements are more kid-friendly but involved monster elements so parents didn't want to take the kids to see it. The monster parts also had kid-friendly elements so teens and young adults were unsure about seeing a "kid movie". But a great movie none-the-less.

Jenn Says -

 I’m not much on horror but after Dave told me what this movie was actually about-- a group of kids fighting classic monsters I can’t resist, so definitely count me in because I have to see this movie. (Updated after watching) Now after actually seeing "Monster Squad", all I can really add is wow, if you love all the classic monsters than definitely check this out. It’s something I could happily watch over again, and yes there’s definitely a plot but as this might not be well known I’m not giving away spoilers because it’s amazing and something musers should check out themselves. I will say this though I think Frankenstein’s monster was very well done and he definitely shines in this.

​Melanie Says -  This movie is super cute and definitely one my kids enjoyed growing up but it's a fun one for adults too if you've never seen it and are looking for something a little less "horror". If you liked the Goonies - this is a must watch!
