No Dog in my Yard by Tricia DellAnno with Illustrations by Jim Pearson - A Review.
Standalone or series?
Melanie - Book 1 in a new series.
Melanie - Children's (Suggested age on Amazon 5-10 - Personally I think it skews younger) / Picture book.
Official Blurb About The Book
Jonathan's relentless begging for a dog has backfired, but he has a plan, or so he thinks! Will the antics of nine neighborhood dogs help him get a dog of his own? What could go wrong? Laugh aloud while following Jonathan and his furry friends around the neighborhood as they scheme, plan, and learn the importance of hard work and responsibility.
This playfully illustrated, humorous story is a fun read for any child, 5-10 years of age, as well as adults. Whether you have a dog or not, No Dog in my Yard is an entertaining picture book that can be read over and over while teaching children that trying their best just might pay off.
How did we get this book?
Requested review and it was a free download on Amazon.
Why did we choose to read this book: I will generally consider any request and I know some of the Musers have younger children / grandchildren.
And Now To The Review!
Melanie - The story is familiar and the illustrations are very well done. My biggest issue is that the writing is done in rhyming couplets, which is common in books for this age group, but in this case they should have taken a little longer in the editing process to sharpen them up. There are definite instances where the rhyming and spacing feels forced, and if you were to read it aloud would require extra thought to make the sentences flow.
Melanie - . It's cute but needed a tighter eye in the edit process to push it to the 5 star level.
Melanie – 3 1/2 rounded up to 4 as sites don't allow 1/2 stars.
