​** Little aside note - I originally reviewed this prior to it's release in 2019.  There are now 4 books in the series.  Each reads as a standalone.  I'm not sure if I could pick a favorite but Book 2 has a vampire that owns a bookstore ...... so I mean really that does give it an edge ...... and Book 4 has a Goblin King ...... which even though he isn't Jareth .... Anything that makes me think of the Labyrinth is a win lol **

Followers of my reviews will know that I am a huge Kristen Painter fan, and as such I couldn't wait to get my hands on this new series!

If you are new to Kristen Painter this is a great place to start. This is the first in a totally new series set in "Shadowvale" - a haven for the cursed, both supernatural and human, that you can only find if the town deems you need to be there. Yes you read that correctly - THE TOWN decides - as in the town is sort of alive, which is fun and different.

It has all the things I have come to expect from a Kristen Painter book, amazing character detail, including the secondary characters, which I personally feel can make or break a book, a quirky new town, and a little mystery that gets wrapped up so NO CLIFFHANGERS!

As a debut for a series goes this one totally knocked it out the park. Fans of the Nocturne Falls series won't be disappointed, and new fans can jump on for what looks to be a fun ride!

I can't wait for book 2 to release. I didn't think a town would top Nocturne Falls as a place I'd want to move to but Shadowvale might be it. Wonder if the gates would let ME in!
