Although this is technically the fourth book in the Shadowvale series, this is a rare case where I really think this would work as a great jumping in point, even if you have never read a Kristen Painter book before. There are a few references to previous characters, but nothing that isn't explained well enough to enjoy this as a standalone. Onto the story - If you take my love of Beauty and the Beast, and mix it in with my love of Goblin Kings (OK ONE Goblin King .....yes THAT Goblin King - with the awesome ..... Hair), you have Moody and the Beast. I do love a Fairy Tale reimagined in a totally new way, and Moody and The Beast does just that and throws in a fun little mystery along the way too so it really has that fresh vibe that some retellings lack. As with the other Shadowvale installments, this story is totally wrapped up by the end so you can happily read away knowing that you get to close the last page with a satisfied, if somewhat sad that you reached the end already, sigh. A solid 5 stars from me and definitely Melanie's Muses approved! Click the picture to see my latest vlog about Midnight Sun! Don't forget to let me know what you think!
Review Ryan is back in the seond installment of this page-turning, favorite new YA Vampire series for 2020 and is more beautifully damaged than ever! Having been left with one of Susan Harris' signature evil cliffhangers I know that fans will be as eager to get their hand on this as I was. As I am a strong believer in NO SPOILERS in reviews, there is very little that I can say about the actual story other than if you liked book 1, you will love book 2, and you will be wanting to get book as soon 3 as soon as it is available. If you love vampires, in particular books such as the Vampire Academy, and perhaps you a feeling a little lost after tearing through Midnight Sun in the 24 hours after it came out, then you should pick this up. Well actually you should pick up book 1 first, so that this makes sense, and as the eBook is FREE right now on all platforms you really have nothing to lose! Another easy 5 stars from me and this is 100% Melanie's Muses Certified! GIVEAWAYS - AND HOW TO ENTER!

Review *Sigh* Yes it is never good when I start a review with a sigh but here we go. Wicked Bite is the 2nd in the Night Rebel trilogy, which is part of a sort of spin-off series from the original Night Huntress World. I say sort of spin-off because even though there is the main "Cat and Bones" series, and then "The Night Prince" series, which consists of 4 books focussing on Vlad's story, to be honest there is so much crossover that really this is more like one continuous story with the original Night Huntress books finishing off, and the characters all popping up everywhere. RIght then - Wicked Bite! When Jeaniene Frost first announced that she was finally writing an Ian spin-off (the first book releasing in 2018) I was skeptical. Ian has been a fan favorite for a long time and settling down really isn't his style. That being said, as you can see from my review of that book (video below if you haven't seen it), I LOVED it. The premise was great, she didn't compromise any of the Ian we have come to know and love, and although I wasn't convinced Veritas would be a good match at all, turns out she has a lot of history that made it work. So what went wrong with book 2. I first picked it up and put it down after a chapter deciding I obviously needed a refresher (as it had been almost 2 years since reading the 1st part). Turns out this was not the problem, the story had just kind of jumped the shark for me. This is the first book in the entire Night Huntress series that I just kept putting down. For me the plot felt scattered, some of the lore was definitely not consistent, and I just ended up feeling that this was so far out of the normal realm of things that everything including the kitchen sink was being thrown in to try and compensate. That being said it wasn't all bad. In the grand scheme of things it still rates a 4 star from me (only just - but it made it), and I will still be looking to read the final installment in Ian's story, whatever that ends up entailing. At the end of the day I feel a little sad, a little disappointed, but the main Night Huntress series starting with Halfway to the Grave is still, by far, one of my top reads, and a series that I comfort read quite often, well at least up to the end of Vlad's books. Have you read this series? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! If you haven't seen my review for book 1 you can check it out here. |
