We’ve all heard of those Disney princesses and I think everyone one has at least one favorite out of the whole bunch. Well at least I know I do and that’s Belle from "Beauty and the Beast". It might be because I can see myself in her. Or maybe it’s just because I think she’s awesome how she’s just herself and doesn’t really care what anyone else thinks. You know she sort of reminds me of Mels.
But anyways, Belle is from one of those small towns where everyone talks, and especially about her. They say she’s weird and strange but honestly there’s nothing wrong with that. Now, Belle has caught the interest of Gaston the towns most eligible bachelor. But you see, the thing is Belle's not interested in just being a wife or interested in Gaston for that matter. You go, girl! The story actually starts when her dad goes missing and Belle heads off on her own to find him. She’s not prepared at what she finds though and where her father happens to be trapped, an enchanted castle with a spell cast over everyone inside. Can Belle help change this Beast's life and all the people that work and live there as well?
I’m sure you know that answer but maybe a rewatch is in order anyways. There are actually two versions of this movie, the original cartoon version and the live action, which I prefer because more story and I’m a sucker for more story. Belle is like no other princess in my mind. Sure, they’re all tough and strong but Belle is something different all together and honestly that’s never a bad thing to be. Be yourself. That’s what Belle teaches us and honestly that’s a pretty good lesson to learn.

I have never been a huge fan of Disney Princesses but I have to say I do have a soft spot for Belle, well really for the library ...... I mean have you SEEN that library? I loved the original cartoon version, I even have the 1997 Enchanted Christmas that was never released in the theaters, and I was really excited when I learned that they were going to be doing it as one of the new live action ones.
Of course the Disney movies are not the only versions out there. This is literally a tale as old as time and has inspired many incarnations including at least 2 TV series that I can think of immediately (if you are going to watch one I highly suggest the older 1980's version versus the newer one from the 2000s), and several movies. Today, however, we are all about the Disney - and for me the live action one has to get the biggest mention. I think the casting was fabulous! Yes people could sit and pick things apart (and they do lol) - I mean do I wish that Emma Watson had sucked it up (literally) and worn a corset - YES (but then I love corsets), but really everyone played their parts so well and it definitely had the cartoon brought to life feel! The stand outs for me were definitely Luke Evans and Josh Gad (Gaston and LeFou), and obviously the general consensus agreed because now there is going to be a prequel series coming to Disney and I for one am all in for that! Whether you prefer the cartoon, or the live action, book lovers everywhere seem to love this movie and who can blame them! I mean did I mention the library .......... lol

"You Remind Me Of The Babe........." A phrase that never fails to want to make me recite the whole scene. As anyone who has been to a recent live will see Greg tries too - although he doesn't always get them in the right order. It's hard for me to believe that it's been almost 35 years (it will be 35 years in August), since Labyrinth came to be. I fell in love with Jareth the Goblin King, (infamously played by the late, great David Bowie) and could never understand Sarah's decision NOT to accede to his wishes. I am sure there could be 100 ways to argue about how inappropriate it all is - how problematic the movie is in the now "WOKE" era, but my position stays the same. She shoule have said YES!
I will never tire of watching the amazing performance David gave to this role. His infamous pants aside, the hair, the make up, the demeanor - everything worked for teenage me - and honestly nothing much has changed! I mean had Emily been a boy - Jareth was the top contender name - I know she is pretty glad about that!
As with many movies that have musical stars, there is an amazing soundtrack, (Spotify list below) but I want to step away from that and talk about the book. Yes the book, which is also in the giveaway, that was released to go with the movie and as you would expect pretty much follows the movie plot - but with some exceptions that actually elaborate on some of the things I originally noticed in the movie on one of my many rewatches as an adult.
My love for the goblin king and his story has never faded. When Kristen Painter released "Moody And The Beast" in 2020 - the Goblin King references were right at the top of my mind (you can check out my full review on there HERE) prooving that even 35 years later this movie STILL has a huge place in my heart.
So check out the trailer (if for some crazy reason you haven't seen it yet), check out the playlist on Spotify, and then scroll down to enter the giveaway!

This movie has been retold in many ways. There’s even a Disney version, but I’ll let Mel’s talk about that one. The "Three Musketeers" movie I want to talk about is the newer one. Yes, it’s way different from the others, but that doesn’t make it any less good than its predecessors.
Actually, I think the Disney version is lighter and this I would say is darker for a newer and maybe older generation. The story is basically the same any way you go. A Young man named D'artagnan wants to join the King’s Guards known as the Three Musketeers, not realizing that the King's head cardinal and advisor had disbanded them for his own nefarious purposes. Entering Paris, D'artagnan comes across and angers three different men, challenging them to a dual. He only realizes afterwards that these three men are Porthos, Athos, and Aramis, three men that are part of the very guards he wants to join.
So together can they stop the cardinal from overthrowing and killing the king. Well, you’ll just have to watch and find out. Now, if you like lighter versions of movies then definitely check out the Disney version of "The Three Musketeers", but with that I’ll let Mel’s tell you more about that. Take it away Mel’s.

So Jenn isn't wrong! The Disney 1993 version of The Three Musketeers, is by far my favorite incarnation of a tale that has been told on numerous occasions. I do remember when I first watched it I was still going through my "Kiefer Sutherland" phase, so I am sure that had something to do with it, but seriously, this whole case is amazing. I mean you have Tim Curry as the Cardinal which absolutely tips it to the top for me, and then of course the "All For One" song - that I played ON REPEAT! Sting, Bryan Adams, and Rod Stewart teamed up to make this power ballad that topped the charts pretty much everywhere! (Video below)
That being said, I also want to give a shout out to what I feel is an often overlooked version, because it is a TV Show rather than a movie, and that's the BBC Drama The Musketeers. It ran for 3 seasons (all of which are currently streaming with a prime membership in the US), and again has a plethora of stars making up the cast. The Cardinal in this one is played by none other than the 12th Doctor himself, Peter Capaldi. Filming Doctor Who sadly conflicted with obligations to the Musketeer show and so he is only in season one, with a new villain entering in season two played by Marc Warren. This does deviate quite substantially from the traditional story but for me it doesn't lose any of its appeal.
And that gives you three versions to check out from us - Check out the trailers below and then enter the giveaway!

If you’re looking for something different to watch like I always am, then Stranger Things on Netflix is something you should definitely check out. Now I admit that I was late to the party but at the nagging of two friends I finally sat down one night and watched it. This was after season two was already out. Once I started watching I couldn’t stop. The show follows two worlds, ours and the Upside-down. The Upside-down is a mirror to our world but much darker and with monsters called the Demogorgon’s.
Each season follows these monsters but also introduces new ones. Enough with the bad guys, let’s move on to our group of heroes. A ragtag team of kids that at first, you might be thinking what are they thinking? But don’t underestimate them because you’d be sorry. I bet those Demogorgon’s did, and they ended up being sorry. Now we all love a good character development and the character I think has that in stranger things is Steve but NO SPOILERS! Trust me you’ll see why I say that whenever you watch. Enjoy your next series binge, the Upside-down is waiting.

Summer of 2016, a new world was coming to the world of Netflix. The world of the Upside Down is unleashed and unknowingly brought into the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. The show is Stranger Thing. It featured a cast of unknowns in the main roles and even in the most of the supporting ones except for Winona Ryder, who at the time was kind of a has-been. She hadn't really been in anything that recently and had legal troubles. But this blend of horror and sci-fi had me intrigued right away from the first trailer, and excited to wait for the premiere. I knew it was right up my alley. I didn't hesitate to dive right in and start to binge. The first season had 8 episodes and I think I finished it in 8 hours straight, without stopping.
Set in the early 1980's, it magically creates the tone reminiscent of The Goonies. Mix The Goonies, a little E.T., a little Super 8, and a dash of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and you will get an end result coming pretty similar to Stranger Things. As a DVD guy and a child of the 80's, I have to tell you one of the coolest things is the DVD releases for Season 1 and 2 had VHS replica packaging! The discs are packaged in an old VHS-style shell casing. I believe it was a Target exclusive but looked so cool! The packaging matches the show's genius but I wish they would have shown some of that genius in preparation of the discs. A) no bonus features! WTF??? A show like this and you can't have a little behind the scenes, interviews, commentaries, bloopers, something! B) ads! A lot of them that you cannot fast forward through or chapter skip or even go to the main menu. You have to sit through them all. So, my guess is if you want to watch it, put the disc in first and then leave to room to prepare a snack or go to the bathroom or something. By the time you get back, you may be ready to hit play. They didn't even release a Season 3 set yet. (Yes, there are some listed but they are bootlegs Buyer beware!)
Accompanying Season 2 on Netflix was the after show, Beyond Stranger Things which featured interviews with the cast and creators. They filmed it. They aired it. They have it! You'd think they would have included in the Season 2 DVD release as some bonus features but noooooooo! Do you think I am a little miffed at that? Damn straight I am! Get on the ball, people! I'd like to know their logic in these releases. Are they trying to make it a little more authentic 80's and since 80's releases didn't have any bonuses, they did the same? OK, I'll step down from my soapbox now.

Saturday Night Live has had a long, storied career. Those of that are a little (or a lot) older still remember their heyday as the original cast in the 70s and maybe into the early 80s. By the time it hit the mid-80s and cast changes it fell into a bit of a slump and probably should have been cancelled. But then something happened. A bit of a resurgence. That led to some of their more popular skits to be turned into full length feature films. Some were a success. Some, well, not so much. One of the successes was “Wayne’s World”.
Mike Myers has given up stalking babysitters. Wait, that’s the wrong Mike Myers. This Mike Myers plays Wayne, who partners with Garth (Dana Carvey) running a cable access show. It attracts the attention of a bigwig television producer. This never goes well. They always want to make changes and turn it into something barely recognizable.

So we didn't get Wayne's World as part of another show when I was in England. It aired as part of an unusual line up on BBC 2 and I loved it. When it first came out I had no idea it was related to anything else and just seemed like something I would want to do. (Kinda funny that now, almost 20 years later I am doing sort of the same thing, from my basement, with my husband!)
This didn't really become a well known thing until the 1st movie launched... and then it was everywhere. Bohemian Rhapsody flew to to the top of the charts, and suddenly everyone was headbanging in their cars, and proclaiming how they weren't worthy. For me the best part of the first movie was definitely hearing Tia Carrere sing! This was the first time I had seen her in anything and I have to say I think she was amazing and the movie is worth it just to hear her wail!
Of course when you have a huge success- they feel the need to do a part 2. I know a lot of people don't like it, feel that it was a sell out, etc etc, but I enjoy it. I love the idea of "Waynestock" that came from Jim Morrison in a dream, PLUS you have Christopher Walken in this one - and who doesn't love a movie with him in it???!!! Yes, the whole thing is ridiculous, but sometimes that is just what you need!

Today I’m going to do a little something that’s different. It’s not exactly a movie or show even though this character has both of those. But with this article I want to highlight the character and why I've loved him so much from the beginning.
I’m not really into comic books. Meaning I don’t read them or buy them. So when I first saw Loki I saw him in the "Avengers" movie. Now, if the writing was supposed to make me hate him, then they failed because with me it’s the opposite. To me, Loki was always misunderstood, and I will argue that point with anyone.
I guess you can say I get a little overprotective with Loki. I’m the same way with Harley (do I really have to point out that I mean Harley Quinn?), but you already know that so back to my boy. If you’ve seen the Marvel movies you know and understand that Loki has been through a lot, and wasn’t who he seemed to be at first. Something like I said that I knew all along.
Now, "Infinity Wars". I don’t talk about the beginning of that movie, because I’ll get upset so let’s move on. My mood all changed when I found out what they were doing and giving Loki his own series on Disney+ and still played by the amazing Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki magnificently I might add. No spoilers for the series but again, just trust me that I was right about my boy all along and hopefully with the series you’ll see and understand that.

Yes I’m back with another old movie, that maybe you haven’t even heard of before. I know I hadn’t until it was recommended to me by Mels. She’s good about that. I guess it’s because she knows I like stuff that is different.
Well anyways this movie is called "Drop Dead Fred". It starts off about a little kid and her imaginary friend, and yes you guessed it, his name is Drop Dead Fred. An unusual name for an imaginary friend, but the main point here is that this friend of hers likes to get her into trouble. So much trouble that her mom gets fed up and tells her no more and locks Fred away.
Confused yet? Well you just might have to watch to understand what I mean by that. Don’t worry though, years later when she’s grown up, they meet again and trouble ensues. Fred doesn’t quite understand why his best friend looks different though, or what she could possibly need from him anymore since she is all grown up now. In the end they both learn valuable lessons and maybe that sometimes it’s alright to let go of childish things. Not because you want to but maybe because you no longer need them.

Oh where to start! I LOVED Drop Dead Fred but then I was already a huge fan of Rik Mayall back from his crazy "Young Ones" days where he played a punk rocker with a group of general drop outs and for whatever reason it just made me laugh. The Young Ones even did a charity record with a cover of Cliff Richard's song Living Doll WITH CLIFF HIMSELF (video below and pretty much most Americans will probably have no idea what I am talking about.
Drop Dead Fred takes this a character very familiar to Rik's role in the Young Ones but adapts it for children. What if imaginary friends were real and wanted to cause trouble? What if parents could lock the invisible friend away - only to have them reappear when the "prison" is opened but the child is now an adult? That's what this movie answers and it does it so well. Full of laughter, feels, and honestly something that almost everyone should be able to relate to, this movie is great for kids and adults alike. Some of the things might be a little dated, but the awesome messages remain!
Rik Mayall sadly passed away in 2014 so won't get to celebrate this movie's 20th Aniversary, but his comedy lives on. If you haven't ever seen this - do yourself a favor and check it out! You won't be sorry!

This is one of those movies that make you go what, when you first hear the title and yes, I’m talking about earth girls are easy. This is a movie you need to watch before you understand it’s not exactly what the title could mean. It’s fun and yes very cheesy but sometimes a little cheesy can be good.
This movie starts off with alien’s crash landing into no other place except the valley and into a swimming pool no less, found by two valley girls that then decide to help them blend in, they take them for a makeover and make them look more human, which works like a charm. Deciding they should all go out on the town for the night that’s when craziness ensues, and so does romance.
This movie might be one of those that you’ve never heard of before or like me, just came across by accident but trust me it’s definitely worth watching.

June 3 2001 Alan Ball, who went on to create the "True Blood" series, introduced us to the Fisher family in the most unusual way. The Fisher family business is a funeral home so we get plunged into that world with the death of the patriarch of the family on his way to pick up his son Nate (Peter Krause) from the airport. Nate and his brother David (Michael C. Hall) take over the family business. Lauren Ambrose, Frances Conroy, Rachel Griffiths, and Matthew St. Patrick round out the cast. Also appearing is Richard Jenkins as the father. Even though he dies the first few minutes, he recurs throughout the series in visions and flashbacks.
The very core of the series is the way it deals with death. It is more than just a business. It is a fact of life. The way it is handled, the way we grieve, the way we process. The cold open varies in many ways as each death is portrayed. You come to expect a death in every opening so the creators start toying with the viewer. You may see someone clutching their chest and thinking they are next but they end up fine and the death comes from someone unexpected and out of left field.
"Six Feet Under" is a little out of my wheelhouse since it’s a drama. Usually, I do horror or comedy. Usually, a drama would have to be quirky. Not just quirky but downright weird. Like "Twin Peaks" weird. Not that "Six Feet Under" isn't without it quirks. I guess a series based around a family running a funeral home can be considered odd. So, I guess that sets it just inside my genre specifications. And of course, nearly all shows nowadays have a little humor in them. This is no exception. Of course, it comes unexpected circumstances and times but that's all part of the Fisher Family vibe.
SFU lasted 5 seasons, totaling 63 episodes and one of the most profound, spectacular finales ever filmed. The acting and writing is top notch. The only bad thing I could possibly say about this series is there was one episode (one single episode) where things took a dark turn that I didn't like. It felt very out of its element and not like the rest of the series at all. Those who watched it can probably guess which one. The ones that didn't, well, I won't spoil that bit for you but you'll know it when you get there.
Admittedly, I was late to the party with this one. I didn't actually start watching until years after it finished. On the plus side, it allowed me to binge it all in a matter of weeks instead of taking 5 years to finish it all-- and that’s counting rewatching the episodes with commentaries! Isn't that much better? Do I have any more commentary lovers here? Be warned, these DVDs were made before they commonly released. So, a few have future spoilers. Watch the series before going back for commentaries.
If you haven't watched this show, what are you waiting for? I waited entirely too long to start it. If you have watched it, isn't it time for a rewatch?

Jenn -I’m not really big on horror movies, or horror anything honestly. That’s mostly Dave's forte, but for this article I want to talk about Chucky. I know-- horror, right? It’s crazy but this little killer doll I actually like and he doesn’t make me jump like other horror stuff does. So that’s automatically a good thing. I actually enjoy all the Chucky movies from the original through "Seed of Chucky". I didn’t see the remake, because honestly, I prefer the serial killer soul idea instead of a malfunctioning chip. I’m sure we’ve all seen or at least heard of the Chucky movies at this point. If not, the premise is its basically serial killer dies, and ends up in a Good Guy doll, a popular doll with little kids. The first three movies follow Andy and his adventures with Chucky, more like nightmares. "Bride of Chucky" is actually my favorite, not sure why but I love the idea of Tiffany and the thought there’s truly someone out there for everyone. Now "Seed of Chucky" was maybe the cheesiest. I mean a son really, but I still enjoyed it. Now, if you still by some chance haven’t seen or heard of this famous killer doll you should check him out, even if you’re not a huge horror fan. I mean, look at me. Also, as a side note, they’re working on a Chucky television series, not quite sure how it will turn out, but I’ll definitely give it a few episodes.
