TWENTY ØNE PILØTS is an American musical duo that originates from Columbus, Ohio.
The band's current line-up features Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. In 2009 and 2011 they released two albums, Twenty One Pilots and Regional at Best. The band eventually signed with label Fueled by Ramen in 2012 and under this label the band released their first major release, Vessel, in 2013, followed by their second and most successful album, Blurryface, in 2015. In 2018, after one year on hiatus, the band released their fifth album, Trench. In 2021, following the stablished storyline on Trench, they released their sixth studio album, Scaled and Icy.
Twenty One Pilots is a band that spans many genres and are generally difficult to assign to just one genre and I love that the band sometimes have referred to themselves as "schizophrenic pop"
I was first introduced to the band when Blurryface was released in 2015, when the singles like Stressed Out & Tear In My Heart came out. I always like a band that has a unique sound and Twenty one Pilots certainly does. The band won't be everyone's shot of whisky but there are certainly some songs that will appeal to everyone.
Two of my fave Pilots songs are completely polar opposites to one another. Jumpsuit from the Trench album and Level Of Concern, which was released as a promo single to help those in the live music industry in the wake of Covid. While Level of Concern contains lyrics about the stress of Covid, the beat and the melody make you want to smile and dance.
As the band said themselves - "schizophrenic pop"
Scaled and Icy is a feel good album that just simply produce happy endorphins and is a feelgood album that you'd have to be made of stone not to smile and bop your head to!

Royal Blood are an English rock duo formed by Mike Kerr (vocals, bass) and Ben Thatcher (drums) in Brighton in 2011. Their sound is anchored by Kerr's unique bass playing technique, in which he uses various effects pedals and multiple amps to make his bass guitar sound like a standard electric guitar and bass at the same time. Their self-titled debut album was released in August 2014, with their second album How Did We Get So Dark? following in June 2017, and their third album Typhoons in April 2021.
I've always loved Royal Blood and the uniqueness of their sound, that heavy beat that makes you air drum when stuck in traffic. They have this innate ability to make you want to mosh and dance at the same time.
The lead single from the album, Troubles Coming was released on 24th September 2020 and gave listeners a taste of what they could expect on the album. In my opinion, this is some of the bands best work, fueling my thought that if the pandemic has given us any positives over the last fourteen months, it's that music thrives even in an apocalypse!
Typhoons earned it's place among many other rock bands who scored a number one album in 2021 with it's toe tapping, air drum beats and head bopping, smile educing albums.
I would assume the guys didn't mean for this album to be uplifting but I can't help that it made me smile and want to dance along in the car. And now that lockdown is lifted in Ireland, I'm looking forward to a long spin and some steering wheel tapping.
Standout tracks for me: ( But this a complete unskippable album)

Escape the Fate made us wait a little longer than expected with "Chemical Warfare". I don't mean the time since their last release. It’s only been about 2 years since "I Am Human" was unleashed upon us. I mean the delay. This was originally due out in February but when I went to see if my pre-order was shipped yet, I saw it got pushed back until April 16th. We needed something like this to heat up that long, cold winter.
Including the newest video, "Lightning Strike" debuting on the date of the album release, we have already heard 5 of the 12 songs that Escape the Fate have brought us. That should give you a pretty good feel for the overall sound and tone they were going for with this release. We kick off this record with the new single "Lightning Strike". Getting you in the mood and ready to set the tone for the rest of the record taking the world by storm!
"Invincible" is an unlikely collaboration with Lindsey Stirling. When I first heard about this, I was intrigued. You wouldn't think the 2 very different sounds would mesh well together. But it works. However, I think one reason it works is Lindsey was a little under-utilized. Her violin is buried under most of the mix until the end. Normally I hate remixes but can we get a remix of this where her playing is brought up more? It would be interesting to have a violin and vocal only version of the song. Is that too much to ask? (Yeah, it probably is.)
Melanie - OMG I LOVE Lindsey Sterling!!!
"Unbreakable" starts with the "Rocky" theme for a few seconds. (HUH?) At least thats what it sounds like to me. Very reminiscent of the iconic theme. "Not My Problem" has some guest drumming by Blink 182's Travis Barker. We can add another "hate song" to the list with "My Gravity" with the lines--
"You keep pullin' me down to your level You're my gravity You keep holdin' me down like the devil You're my gravity In hell for eternity You're the magnet, I'm the steel You keep pullin' me down to your level" And "Burn the Bridges" isn't far behind, with a little surprise intro that ventures into a new genre for them-- "Your light is fadin' You really thought you could escape Your lies keep weighin' And I just hope you choke on what you say" Damn harsh, but I love it! Lastly we have "Walk On" from the "Sno Babies" soundtrack. We got our first listen to this a few months ago. Since it was for the movie, I wasn't even sure if it would end up making the final cut of the CD. Everyone struggles and it can give you the push you need to make it through. "Walk on till you see the light of day Walk on till the darkness goes away Everybody feels alone sometimes Walk on when you're going through hell, keep going Walk on till your broken heart's unbroken Everybody feels alone sometimes" ETF gives us 12 songs but sometimes they can run a little short in length. Half the songs are falling under the 3 minute or just barely over. The whole thing only coming in a little over 38 minutes. There are always extra songs laying around. I think they could have thrown a couple extra ones on here. There is at least one, "Christmas Song", that was on a holiday compilation that they decided not to include on this release. C'mon, guys! You have it finished already. Throw it on here! Maybe in the next couple weeks, we can search YouTube for some bonus tracks from the Japanese release like they did "I Am Human". The bonus tracks there ended being some of the better songs on the record.
