Day 24 - Movie 1 - National Lampoons Christmas Vacation!
Every Christmas Eve we watch 2 movies - and that really kicks off Christmas for us. Em's best friend comes over, they open their Christmas Eve gifts, get hot cocoa, and we settle down for a double feature! First up - Christmas Vacation. This movie is just outrageous family craziness, with the best Christmas Lights EVER! I would LOVE to have the whole house covered like this, although our neighbors, even though they aren't as bad as Margo, I am sure would be unamused. Family get togethers are crazy! As we watch this every year we can relate so much, partly because a lot of what you see on screen represents an exaggerated version of our family back in the day, when they were all around, right down to the parents! Classic scenes, Classic lines, and even if you haven't seen it I guarantee SOMEONE around you will have used at LEAST one phrase from this movie at some point over the holidays, so you are definitely missing out! So what do you think? Stream it or Skip it?
Day 24 - Movie 2 - The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year! The second movie is a Hallmark original, but it is available to buy on DVD, or watch free right now with Amazon Prime. For us, this really signifies Christmas. We quote Henry Winkler's character all year round, and it really captures the true spirit of Christmas! We joke every year about the Hallmark Snow (special effects are not their strong point), but somehow that just makes this more endearing. Before you Hallmark Haters start judging, let me tell you that Greg is NOT a big Hallmark fan at all, and he LOVES this! It is worth watching for the Fonzie lines alone. From the HUGE Christmas wreath, to the one red light bulb, this movie warms my heart, and I hope if you haven't see it, it will warm yours too. Even a Grinch can't dislike The Fonz! So what do you think? Stream it or Skip it?

Day 23 Noelle Day 23 brings a new to me movie and honestly?, I am not sure quite how this slipped under my radar last week. It is a Disney+ original, which could have something to do with it as that isn't a channel I use, BUT I am sure this still should have made the list! Let me start by saying, Disney is not afraid to throw a little real life darkness in their movies! This could open up some very interesting discussions with children, which, not going to lie, I am kinda glad we are passed those worries. They are certainly don't shy away from kill off the odd parent, even if that parent is Santa! Now before you start thinking I have lost my mind and have accidently let a sad movie slip in, this movie is hilarious! Snowcone (the little reindeer) was a huge hit in this house and I will say I am a little disappointed that there are no purchase options available. Whereas I might not be tempted by a walking, talking, do it all Baby Yoda - the same options in Snowcone might have me looking twice. Chock full of big names such as Anna Kendrick and Shirley McClaine this is definitely one for all the family, although honestly, I think the grownups might even enjoy it even more than the kids! So what do you think? Stream it, (Buy it) or Skip it? So what do you think? Stream it or Skip it?

Day 22 - The Christmas Chronicles Day 22 brings something to make you smile. If you haven't seen Kurt Russell as the Elvis Singing Santa, trust me when I see this is the version that you never knew you needed! The trailed caught our eye a couple of years back during the Macy's Parade, and it soon became a favorite, especially the elves! (Netflix - WHY are there not these elves available to own?!?!) The sequel released this year with all the magic that should come with it. Unlike most of the movies on my list, I can't say this one comes with no tears. For me especially there are a couple of parts that really hit close to home, but as Greg often likes to say, I cry at pretty much everything. Don't let that put you off though because this movie is so much more than the couple of teary minutes. As well as the trailer, I have included Kurt singing the Christmas Blues, because even if you aren't going to watch the movie, that is a scene EVERYONE should watch at least once! So what do you think? Stream it, (Buy it) or Skip it?

Day 21 Crown For Christmas Day 21 brings a Hallmark Movie, which yes I know, another one, but Amazon just sent me a notification that the digital version is on sale right now for under $5! As this one was mentioned in my Christmas Movies for 2020 (as a side note but even so), I figured I would share the sale because if you haven't got it, this is the perfect time! As I mentioned before I LOVE Danica McKellar especially in Christmas movies and this one is another of my DVD owns, because I like to be able to watch it at any time! I will admit I am a sucker for a Royal Christmas movie! Especially one with an English Prince..... and yes, it all goes exactly as you would expect, complete with the usual will they won't they upsets, but we all know it will work out in the end. Let's be honest, I don't think anybody is watching these for surprise plot lines! For those that have the Hallmark Channel through their cable set up (NOT Hallmark Movies now – the Hallmark Movies now is completely different) this will be on at various times over the next few weeks. For others, I don’t think $5 is too bad! So what do you think? Stream it, (Buy it) or Skip it?

Day 20– The Cutting Edge Okay, I'm not going to lie. This is pushing it as a Christmas movie even for me, but there is snow, and a Christmas and New Years scene, and a funny present exchange .... soooooooooo But basically I just love it and think you should all watch it because TOE PICK! Yup that is all! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?

Day 19 – While You Were Sleeping Day 19 and a fun RomCom. This scenario is so much fun that there is even a Friends episode with the same idea, although *spoiler alert* neither of the Friends end up with the guy. Back in the 90's Sandra Bullock was one of my fave Rom Com Actresses. From Miss Congeniality, to Speed, (OK so that one is kind of action), anyway, before her trip into more serious endeavors I was all about anything she was in. Neither of the leading guys are particularly my type, but that doesn't stop this movie from being cute and ridiculous, full of family moments, and just all round good! Definitely one worth adding to the list whether you have seen it or not, especially as it often seems to get left out of Holiday lists! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?

Day 18 - The Last Holiday Day 18 - And before you think I have lost my mind and posted a tear-jerker I can assure you that won't ever happen! I don't want to watch sad movies in my Christmas line up and would never suggest one for anyone else. I will admit, I have avoided this movie ever since I first saw the trailer. Diagnosed with a terminal illness right around Christmas, for me there was NO way that was going to have a happy ending, but I was wrong! (And I don't count a "she did everything she wanted to before she died as happy either")! Em has been nagging and nagging me to watch this movie, literally for years, and eventually she had to promise me it would NOT make me cry, which I was dubious about, BUT IT DIDN'T! This movie is GREAT! Don't let the title put you off, and the trailer shows some great clips, but let me assure you THERE WERE NO TEARS!! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?

Day 17 - The Holidate Day 17 brings us the movie that is literally what happens when you let Netflix Writers at a Hallmark Movie idea. This is not for kids, and just when you think awww I see where this is going, booze, drugs, and sex will help get you out of that mindset. Of course there is a happily ever after, no sad movies make this list, but the trip, well it's definitely different and with star power names such as Kristin Chenoweth and Emma Roberts, it is one that is now on the list! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?

Day 16 The Case For Christmas Day 16 brings another Hallmark Movie that I mentioned in my top 10 for 2020. You can get it on DVD with 3 other movies right now for under $9 (yes this is the sort of email Amazon sends me lol) and as I can't resist a bargain, but I already have it, I decided to share! For those that didn't watch my vlog, (you can rectify that by clicking here), this takes the familiar Miracle on 34th Street idea but adds a little twist. A big shot company owner is basically bitter because they didn't get what they wanted one Christmas as a child, so they decide to sue Santa, who can't appear in court to defend himself (or so he thinks), and replace him with sporting goods as the new Go To Christmas present delivered by their "fairy mascot". Hmmmmmm OK so the sporting goods thing is a bit nuts, but George Buza makes a fabulous Kris Kringle, and really, that's all that matters! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?
Day 15 Fred Claus
So followers of the website may notice that this movie is a little familiar. Dave recently shared a "5 Alternative Christmas Movies" article with slightly less traditional movies, and this was on it. As I mentioned yesterday, Vince Vaughn is a huge favorite in this house, (apparently Greg has informed me he is not one of his favorites, and is insisting that I change it - so Vince Vaugh is Em's favorite and I think he's funny too) ..... ANYWAY so when this popped up on the list we had to check it out, what I didn't expect is that it would add up on MY list! Not only that but Em immediately had it ordered and sent to my Mum in England because it was decided SHE needed to watch it! This movie is absolutely chocked full of stars! Some of them shrunk down to elves! This is original, and funny, and even has Kathy Bates! Whether you are looking for something more alternative, or just something fun, this Christmas movie should be on your list. In fact Dave, I would argue it belongs more on my list that yours lol! So what do you think? Stream or Skip it?
